5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The city of Houston lost a respected business and |
---|
6 | 6 | | civic leader with the death of Alex Wang, who passed away on |
---|
7 | 7 | | April 30, 2023, at the age of 59; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Alex Wang was born in November 1964 in Hefei, Anhui, |
---|
9 | 9 | | China; after studying in the Department of Radio Electronics at the |
---|
10 | 10 | | University of Science and Technology of China, he began his career |
---|
11 | 11 | | as an assistant engineer at the Hefei Microcomputer Research |
---|
12 | 12 | | Institute; in 1990, he immigrated to the United States and enrolled |
---|
13 | 13 | | at the University of Houston, where he earned a master's degree in |
---|
14 | 14 | | computer science in 1997; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The founder and president of Z & ZZ International, |
---|
16 | 16 | | Mr. Wang designed and maintained websites for numerous companies, |
---|
17 | 17 | | and he also devoted himself to the online news industry as the |
---|
18 | 18 | | founder and editor in chief of the World Hall of Fame network, for |
---|
19 | 19 | | which he wrote many Chinese-language articles that were popular |
---|
20 | 20 | | worldwide; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to serving the Chinese American community |
---|
22 | 22 | | in the U.S. and to promoting Chinese culture around the world, |
---|
23 | 23 | | Mr. Wang took an active role in helping Chinese immigrants succeed |
---|
24 | 24 | | in the U.S.; moreover, he held leadership roles with a number of |
---|
25 | 25 | | worthy organizations, serving as secretary-general of the Anhui |
---|
26 | 26 | | Association of Texas and as deputy executive director of the |
---|
27 | 27 | | Chinese Civic Center in Houston; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Wang and his first wife, Zhong Zhang, were |
---|
29 | 29 | | blessed with a daughter, Winnie Wang; though their marriage later |
---|
30 | 30 | | ended, he went on to enjoy a richly rewarding union with his second |
---|
31 | 31 | | wife, Bo Lu, who spent many years working behind the scenes to |
---|
32 | 32 | | support her husband's media platform and civic endeavors; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, The loss of Alex Wang is keenly felt by the numerous |
---|
34 | 34 | | friends and colleagues that he made through the years as well as by |
---|
35 | 35 | | the countless people in Texas and beyond whose lives he forever |
---|
36 | 36 | | enriched; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Alex Wang and extend |
---|
39 | 39 | | sincere condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
41 | 41 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
42 | 42 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alex Wang. |
