| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The staff and electrical utility line workers of |

| 6 | 6 | | Pedernales Electric Cooperative distinguished themselves through |

| 7 | 7 | | their heroic efforts during the winter storm in late January and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | early February 2023; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, In the week of January 30, the storm struck Central |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Texas and caused severe damage, similar to that of a hurricane or |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | tornado; heavy ice accumulated on power lines and poles and sheets |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | of ice crashed onto electrical equipment, resulting in outages |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | across PEC's 8,100 square-mile service territory; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, PEC responded to the crisis by working tirelessly |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | around the clock in extremely adverse conditions to restore power |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | to the Hill Country and Central Texas communities; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Thanks to the courage, hard work, and resilience of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | PEC staff and line workers, lives were saved and facilities and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | homes were restored to order, and these dedicated men and women are |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | indeed deserving of special recognition for the vital role they |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | played in helping Central Texans to recover from this devastating |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | event; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature hereby honor the staff and electrical utility line |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | workers of Pedernales Electric Cooperative and extend to them |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | sincere gratitude for their perseverance and success in restoring |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | electrical power to the people of Central Texas; and, be it further |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
