55 WHEREAS, The San Marcos High School boys' basketball team
66 enjoyed an outstanding 2022-2023 season, advancing all the way to
77 the regional finals of the University Interscholastic League state
88 playoffs for the first time in 40 years; and
99 WHEREAS, En route to winning the District 27-6A championship,
1010 the Rattlers went undefeated on their home court in addition to
1111 capturing tournament titles at the River City Classic and the
1212 San Marcos Holiday Classic; the squad opened its thrilling playoff
1313 run by reeling off consecutive victories over Clark, Westlake, and
1414 Reagan High Schools; and
1515 WHEREAS, In the regional semifinals, San Marcos battled
1616 Warren High School and emerged with a hard-fought 53-50 win; that
1717 set the stage for the regional championship contest against Brennan
1818 High School, in which the Rattlers put forth an exceptional effort
1919 but ultimately saw their campaign come to an end; finishing with a
2020 superb record of 38 wins to just 4 defeats, the team set a program
2121 record for the most victories in a single season; and
2222 WHEREAS, Throughout the year, San Marcos was paced by
2323 District 27-6A Most Valuable Player Malik Presley, who was joined
2424 on the All-District First Team by Kaden Gumbs and Jayven Cofer;
2525 Mateus Perkins earned All-District Second Team honors, and Zyair
2626 Jolivette and Cash Good were All-District Honorable Mention
2727 selections; Ezequiel Davila, Isaiah Deleon, Mr. Gumbs, Kai Lee,
2828 Mr. Perkins, Mr. Presley, and Abel Trevino received Academic
2929 All-District accolades; over the course of the season, these
3030 dedicated student-athletes benefited from the leadership of head
3131 coach Dan Miller and his assistants; and
3232 WHEREAS, Demonstrating a combination of exceptional talent
3333 and fierce determination, the San Marcos Rattlers turned in an
3434 unforgettable performance during the 2022-2023 season, and their
3535 accomplishments are a source of great pride to their many
3636 supporters in the local community; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3838 Legislature hereby congratulate the San Marcos High School boys'
3939 basketball team on a successful year and extend to the players,
4040 coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
4141 further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4444 House of Representatives.
