| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | family and friends of Ray Cox, who passed away on October 18, 2021; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cox was a proud alumnus of Houston Baptist |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | University, where he graduated with degrees in accounting and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | management in 1981; he went on to earn his doctor of jurisprudence |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | degree from South Texas College of Law Houston in 1988, and he was |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | admitted to the State Bar of Texas the following year; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 1994, Mr. Cox established the Cox Law Firm, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | he also taught business law in the HBU master's degree program; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | actively involved with his alma mater, he served for a total of 20 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | years on the Houston Baptist University Board of Trustees, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | including two terms as its chair, and he was a member of the HBU |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Alumni Association Advisory Board as well; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cox balanced his career with a rewarding home |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | life as a servant of Christ with his wife, Dr. Barbara Taylor Cox, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | with whom he shared four decades of marriage, and he was a devoted |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | father to their two sons, Tyler and Colton; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Although Ray Cox will be deeply missed, those who |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | were privileged to share in his love and friendship will forever |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | remember him with admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ray Cox and extend |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | sincere sympathy to all those who mourn his passing; and, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ray Cox. |
