5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Chief Mike Berezin is retiring from the Missouri |

6 | 6 | | City Police Department on May 19, 2023, drawing to a close an |
---|
7 | 7 | | exemplary career that has spanned nearly 35 years; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mike Berezin first joined the department as a patrol |
---|
9 | 9 | | officer in January 1989; he excelled in performing his duties on the |
---|
10 | 10 | | force and was honored as Officer of the Year by the 100 Club of Fort |
---|
11 | 11 | | Bend County in 1990 and with the same award by the 100 Club of |
---|
12 | 12 | | Greater Houston in 2001; over the years, he rose steadily through |
---|
13 | 13 | | the ranks, serving as a field training officer, crime scene |
---|
14 | 14 | | investigator, patrol sergeant, patrol lieutenant, captain, and |
---|
15 | 15 | | assistant chief of police, before being named chief of police in |
---|
16 | 16 | | 2014; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure with the department, Chief Berezin |
---|
18 | 18 | | has helped maintain the safety of a city that has experienced |
---|
19 | 19 | | exponential growth over the past several decades; he oversaw the |
---|
20 | 20 | | development of Missouri City PD's first police mini-station and |
---|
21 | 21 | | first motorcycle traffic enforcement unit, and he led efforts to |
---|
22 | 22 | | promote transparency by making the department's policies and |
---|
23 | 23 | | procedures available to view online and by publishing an annual |
---|
24 | 24 | | report with detailed crime statistics and other information; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Among Chief Berezin's most significant achievements |
---|
26 | 26 | | was the role he played in the implementation of the department's |
---|
27 | 27 | | well-regarded community outreach program, through which |
---|
28 | 28 | | supervisors are assigned to attend homeowners association meetings |
---|
29 | 29 | | and to collaborate with residents on crime prevention measures; he |
---|
30 | 30 | | shared his expertise on community policing and crime reduction on a |
---|
31 | 31 | | national level in 2016, when he traveled to Washington, D.C., to |
---|
32 | 32 | | oversee the development of President Barack Obama's Task Force |
---|
33 | 33 | | Report on 21st Century Policing; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Chief Berezin graduated from the Leadership Command |
---|
35 | 35 | | College at Sam Houston State University, from the 236th Session of |
---|
36 | 36 | | the FBI National Academy, and from the Senior Executives for State |
---|
37 | 37 | | and Local Government program at Harvard University; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his many years in law enforcement, Chief |
---|
39 | 39 | | Mike Berezin has distinguished himself as a public servant of the |
---|
40 | 40 | | highest order, and his contributions have earned him the gratitude |
---|
41 | 41 | | of the community and the deep respect of his fellow officers; now, |
---|
42 | 42 | | therefore, be it |

43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Mike Berezin on his retirement as |
---|
45 | 45 | | chief of the Missouri City Police Department and extend to him |
---|
46 | 46 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
