5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Historically Black Colleges and |

6 | 6 | | Universities Legislative Caucus was established on April 12, 2023; |
---|
7 | 7 | | and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Texas HBCU Legislative Caucus strives to nurture |
---|
9 | 9 | | leadership and excellence in higher education and to celebrate the |
---|
10 | 10 | | invaluable role that the state's HBCUs play in promoting practices |
---|
11 | 11 | | of strong and meaningful citizenship; the caucus includes lawmakers |
---|
12 | 12 | | of the Texas Legislature who have demonstrated a steadfast |
---|
13 | 13 | | commitment to representing and supporting HBCUs through funding, |
---|
14 | 14 | | public awareness efforts, and other initiatives; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The members of the caucus will regularly meet with |
---|
16 | 16 | | the Planning Committee of the Texas HBCU Conference Series, |
---|
17 | 17 | | participate in the annual Texas HBCU Conference, and hold biannual |
---|
18 | 18 | | meetings with students at HBCU campuses in their districts; in |
---|
19 | 19 | | addition, the Texas HBCU Legislative Caucus is partnering with the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Texas Legislative Black Caucus to establish an internship program |
---|
21 | 21 | | that will help students gain firsthand experience with the |
---|
22 | 22 | | legislative process; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The Texas HBCU Legislative Caucus supports each of |
---|
24 | 24 | | the state's nine HBCUs, which include Paul Quinn College, Wiley |
---|
25 | 25 | | College, Huston-Tillotson University, Prairie View A&M University, |
---|
26 | 26 | | Texas College, St. Philip's College, Jarvis Christian University, |
---|
27 | 27 | | Texas Southern University and the Thurgood Marshall School of Law, |
---|
28 | 28 | | and Southwestern Christian College, as well as their affiliated |
---|
29 | 29 | | fraternities, alumni networks, and graduate programs; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, HBCUs are essential to the higher education system |
---|
31 | 31 | | in the Lone Star State, and the Texas HBCU Legislative Caucus is |
---|
32 | 32 | | sure to serve as a valuable resource to these noteworthy |
---|
33 | 33 | | institutions; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby recognize the creation of the Texas Historically |
---|
36 | 36 | | Black Colleges and Universities Legislative Caucus and extend to |
---|
37 | 37 | | the group's members sincere best wishes for success in their |
---|
38 | 38 | | endeavors; and, be it further |

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

40 | 40 | | prepared for the Texas HBCU Legislative Caucus as an expression of |
