44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Texas Historically Black Colleges and
66 Universities Legislative Caucus was established on April 12, 2023;
77 and
88 WHEREAS, The Texas HBCU Legislative Caucus strives to nurture
99 leadership and excellence in higher education and to celebrate the
1010 invaluable role that the state's HBCUs play in promoting practices
1111 of strong and meaningful citizenship; the caucus includes lawmakers
1212 of the Texas Legislature who have demonstrated a steadfast
1313 commitment to representing and supporting HBCUs through funding,
1414 public awareness efforts, and other initiatives; and
1515 WHEREAS, The members of the caucus will regularly meet with
1616 the Planning Committee of the Texas HBCU Conference Series,
1717 participate in the annual Texas HBCU Conference, and hold biannual
1818 meetings with students at HBCU campuses in their districts; in
1919 addition, the Texas HBCU Legislative Caucus is partnering with the
2020 Texas Legislative Black Caucus to establish an internship program
2121 that will help students gain firsthand experience with the
2222 legislative process; and
2323 WHEREAS, The Texas HBCU Legislative Caucus supports each of
2424 the state's nine HBCUs, which include Paul Quinn College, Wiley
2525 College, Huston-Tillotson University, Prairie View A&M University,
2626 Texas College, St. Philip's College, Jarvis Christian University,
2727 Texas Southern University and the Thurgood Marshall School of Law,
2828 and Southwestern Christian College, as well as their affiliated
2929 fraternities, alumni networks, and graduate programs; and
3030 WHEREAS, HBCUs are essential to the higher education system
3131 in the Lone Star State, and the Texas HBCU Legislative Caucus is
3232 sure to serve as a valuable resource to these noteworthy
3333 institutions; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3535 Legislature hereby recognize the creation of the Texas Historically
3636 Black Colleges and Universities Legislative Caucus and extend to
3737 the group's members sincere best wishes for success in their
3838 endeavors; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for the Texas HBCU Legislative Caucus as an expression of
4141 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
