55 WHEREAS, Many Texans are joining together with people around
66 the world in celebration of the Lunar New Year on February 10, 2024;

88 WHEREAS, The Lunar New Year festival, which begins with the
99 first new moon of the lunar calendar, is one of the most important
1010 religious and cultural holidays for people of Asian heritage; this
1111 year's festival marks the commencement of the Year of the Dragon and
1212 ushers in the spring season, a new beginning, when members of the
1313 Asian community reflect on the past and make plans for the future;

1515 WHEREAS, The dragon, the fifth animal of the Chinese zodiac,
1616 is the symbol of strength, success, and good luck in Chinese
1717 culture, and 2024 is therefore predicted to be a year of change and
1818 mobility; and
1919 WHEREAS, Members of the Asian community play a vital role in
2020 the business, professional, and cultural life of the Lone Star
2121 State, and the Lunar New Year is a fitting time to reflect on their
2222 many contributions as we share our aspirations for a prosperous
2323 future; now, therefore, be it
2424 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2525 Legislature hereby commemorate the Lunar New Year on February 10,
2626 2024, and extend to all who are celebrating the holiday sincere best
2727 wishes for health and happiness in the coming year.
