55 WHEREAS, Frances Tankersley Messer is celebrating her 100th
66 birthday on September 23, 2023, and this occasion provides a
77 welcome opportunity for family and friends to express the love and
88 affection they hold for her; and
99 WHEREAS, The former Frances Tankersley was born in Abilene in
1010 1923 to William Gaddis Tankersley and Mary Lea Pinegar Tankersley,
1111 and she grew up with three siblings, Cleon, Randall, and Billye
1212 Jean; her family relocated to Shamrock, Oklahoma, and then to
1313 Austin, where she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and
1414 was a member of the Red Jackets dance team; she earned a pharmacy
1515 degree from The University of Texas in 1944, and she became one of
1616 only a few women working as a pharmacist at the time; and
17- WHEREAS, She met her future husband, James Bauerle, when she
17+ WHEREAS, She met her future husband, James Messer, when she
1818 was a student at UT, and the couple were blessed with three
1919 children; in the early 1950s, Mrs. Messer and her family moved to
2020 San Antonio, and there she became an active volunteer with local and
2121 statewide dental auxiliaries and with her church; and
2222 WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. Messer is the proud matriarch of a
2323 family that includes her three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne
2424 and Jack Pool, Nancy and Grover Campbell, and Janet and Greg
2525 Anderson, her five grandchildren, Jeff, Logan, Lee, Elizabeth, and
2626 William, and her three great-grandchildren, Tiegan, Hunter, and
2727 Henley; a woman of many interests and talents, she is a loyal UT
2828 football fan and a gifted cook, and she has traveled to numerous
2929 countries around the world; and
3030 WHEREAS, Frances Messer is a source of tremendous
3131 inspiration, and in sharing the experience gained through a century
3232 of life well lived, she bestows a precious gift of wisdom that
3333 benefits all who are fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore,
3434 be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3636 Legislature hereby congratulate Frances Tankersley Messer on her
3737 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
3838 happiness; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for Mrs. Messer as an expression of high regard by the
4141 Texas House of Representatives.
