| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Valle family have made a lasting |

| 6 | 6 | | and positive impact on the city of Garland, and their contributions |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | indeed merit special recognition; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The first Latino family recorded as residents of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Garland, the Valles have lived in the city since the late 1920s, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | when Manuel and Maria Valle relocated to the area from El Paso; they |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | raised eight children, six sons and two daughters, who were all |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Garland High School graduates and excelled in academics and sports; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | one son, Pascual Valle, was the first all-state football player |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | from Garland, and he excelled in track as well; he and his son, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Tony, became the first father-and-son duo inducted into the Garland |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Sports Hall of Fame; Pascual Valle's wife, Sylvia, was employed in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | education in the community for 45 years until her retirement; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, All six of Manuel and Maria Valle's sons served in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the military, representing the U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Corps of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Engineers, the U.S. Marine Corps, and the U.S. Air Force; they |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | served in World War II, in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Middle East conflicts; moreover, the family's eldest daughter |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | helped build planes during World War II; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The family's integral role in the city has been |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | recognized in a number of ways; in 2014, the Garland Independent |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | School District named its student services center in honor of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Manuel and Maria Valle, and in 2021 a musical drama based on the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | family's history, The Cactus Chronicles, had its debut; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of nearly a century, the members of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the Valle family have inspired innumerable residents of North Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | through their exemplary service to their community and their |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | country, and the family's legacy will continue to resonate for many |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby commend the Valle family for its many |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | contributions to the city of Garland and extend to its members |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
