5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Destiny Montemayor has distinguished herself in her |

6 | 6 | | responsibilities as a legislative assistant in the office of State |

7 | 7 | | Representative Jarvis Johnson during the 88th Legislative Session; |

9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Montemayor joined the staff as a participant in |
---|
10 | 10 | | the Texas Legislative Internship Program; during her time at the |
---|
11 | 11 | | State Capitol, she has provided vital assistance in handling a wide |
---|
12 | 12 | | variety of challenging tasks, including helping with constituent |
---|
13 | 13 | | relations, meeting with advocacy groups and stakeholders, |
---|
14 | 14 | | analyzing bills, and drafting talking points; in addition to |
---|
15 | 15 | | gaining valuable experience in the field of public service, she has |
---|
16 | 16 | | learned more about the legislative process and the issues facing |
---|
17 | 17 | | citizens of the Lone Star State; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Montemayor holds a bachelor's degree in |
---|
19 | 19 | | broadcast journalism with a minor in Spanish as well as a master's |
---|
20 | 20 | | degree in educational leadership and policy studies, and she is |
---|
21 | 21 | | currently pursuing a juris doctor degree at the Southern University |
---|
22 | 22 | | Law Center; while completing her studies, she has served as |
---|
23 | 23 | | executive editor for the Journal of Race, Gender & Poverty, and she |
---|
24 | 24 | | has been elected president of the university's Latino Law Student |
---|
25 | 25 | | Association; she is also a member of the Student Bar Association |
---|
26 | 26 | | board; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, During her eight-year career as an educator, |
---|
28 | 28 | | Ms. Montemayor taught at middle schools in the |
---|
29 | 29 | | Grapevine-Colleyville, Keller, and Birdville Independent School |
---|
30 | 30 | | Districts; a former Division I track and field athlete, she later |
---|
31 | 31 | | served as a coach for a wide variety of sports, and she is active in |
---|
32 | 32 | | her church and community; during her leisure hours, she likes to |
---|
33 | 33 | | dance, exercise, write, and spend time outdoors; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Destiny Montemayor has performed her duties as a |
---|
35 | 35 | | legislative assistant with skill and dedication, and she is indeed |
---|
36 | 36 | | deserving of special recognition for her fine work; now, therefore, |
---|

38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
