5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Cheryl Smith retired as a senior grievance |

6 | 6 | | specialist from Alliance/AFT on January 31, 2023, drawing to a |

7 | 7 | | close an exemplary career with the organization that spanned more |

8 | 8 | | than two decades; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith first joined Alliance/AFT (American |
---|
10 | 10 | | Federation of Teachers) in October 2002; over the course of her |
---|
11 | 11 | | tenure, she went above and beyond in assisting the organization's |
---|
12 | 12 | | members, and she further distinguished herself through her |
---|
13 | 13 | | dependability and thorough preparation; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Highly engaged in civic life as well, Mrs. Smith |
---|
15 | 15 | | currently serves as chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission for |
---|
16 | 16 | | the city of Grand Prairie and as a board member of the Beacon Hill |
---|
17 | 17 | | HOA; she is also the president of 360 Corridor Democratic Action!, |
---|
18 | 18 | | chair of the Tarrant County Democratic Party Educator to Educator |
---|
19 | 19 | | Network Steering Committee, and a member of the House District 101 |
---|
20 | 20 | | Transportation & Health Task Force; furthermore, she has served as |
---|
21 | 21 | | an election judge, a precinct chair, a deputy voter registrar, a |
---|
22 | 22 | | convention chair for Senate District 23, and a delegation chair for |
---|
23 | 23 | | Senate District 22; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A 1973 graduate of Kashmere High School, Mrs. Smith |
---|
25 | 25 | | holds a bachelor's degree from Texas Southern University; in all |
---|
26 | 26 | | her endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of her husband, |
---|
27 | 27 | | Thomas, as well as their three sons and eight grandchildren; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Through her professionalism, dedication, and |
---|
29 | 29 | | commitment to excellence, Cheryl Smith has earned the respect and |
---|
30 | 30 | | admiration of all those who have had the privilege of working with |
---|
31 | 31 | | her, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as |
---|
32 | 32 | | she begins the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be |
