44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Cheryl Smith retired as a senior grievance
66 specialist from Alliance/AFT on January 31, 2023, drawing to a
77 close an exemplary career with the organization that spanned more
88 than two decades; and
99 WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith first joined Alliance/AFT (American
1010 Federation of Teachers) in October 2002; over the course of her
1111 tenure, she went above and beyond in assisting the organization's
1212 members, and she further distinguished herself through her
1313 dependability and thorough preparation; and
1414 WHEREAS, Highly engaged in civic life as well, Mrs. Smith
1515 currently serves as chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission for
1616 the city of Grand Prairie and as a board member of the Beacon Hill
1717 HOA; she is also the president of 360 Corridor Democratic Action!,
1818 chair of the Tarrant County Democratic Party Educator to Educator
1919 Network Steering Committee, and a member of the House District 101
2020 Transportation & Health Task Force; furthermore, she has served as
2121 an election judge, a precinct chair, a deputy voter registrar, a
2222 convention chair for Senate District 23, and a delegation chair for
2323 Senate District 22; and
2424 WHEREAS, A 1973 graduate of Kashmere High School, Mrs. Smith
2525 holds a bachelor's degree from Texas Southern University; in all
2626 her endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of her husband,
2727 Thomas, as well as their three sons and eight grandchildren; and
2828 WHEREAS, Through her professionalism, dedication, and
2929 commitment to excellence, Cheryl Smith has earned the respect and
3030 admiration of all those who have had the privilege of working with
3131 her, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as
3232 she begins the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be
3333 it
3434 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3535 Legislature hereby congratulate Cheryl Smith on her retirement from
3636 Alliance/AFT and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future;
3737 and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for Mrs. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4040 House of Representatives.
