| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy |

| 6 | 6 | | students from across the state are gathering in Austin on |

| 7 | 7 | | February 28, 2023, in celebration of Texas Pharmacy Day at the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The history of the pharmacy profession in Texas |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | dates back to the 17th century, when Spanish explorers and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | missionaries dispensed medicines and learned about Native American |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | remedies; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Today, pharmacists often serve as the primary point |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | of contact with the health care system for tens of millions of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Americans, and they play an increasingly important role in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | counseling patients on the safe and effective use of prescription |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | medications; during the COVID-19 pandemic, pharmacists have |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | provided access to testing, treatment, and vaccination, services |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | that have helped to save countless lives and to limit the spread of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the virus in their communities; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Pharmacists work to provide affordable, lifesaving |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | medications in rural areas across Texas and the United States; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | these valued members of the community live and work alongside |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | patients as neighbors, friends, and community leaders in addition |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | to their role as medical providers; such lasting relationships |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | build trust and confidence, making pharmacists better able to serve |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | as a resource when questions and concerns arise; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Champions on the front lines of health care, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | pharmacists contribute immeasurably to the health and well-being of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | their fellow Texans, and it is truly a pleasure to recognize the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | members of this vital profession for their commitment to the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | quality of life in their communities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 28, 2023, as Texas Pharmacy |

| 35 | 35 | | Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those participating |
