| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The 90th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | cause for celebration, and Maxine Curvey of Houston marked that |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | special milestone on January 23, 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Lum and Flossie White Curvey, Maxine |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Curvey was born in Grapeland in 1933; she attended W. R. Banks High |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Prairie View A&M |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | University, as well as a master's degree from Texas Southern |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | University; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of her distinguished career in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | education, Ms. Curvey taught with the Houston Independent School |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | District and the Aldine Independent School District, and her |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 52-year tenure in the classroom is thought to be one of the longest |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | in the city; she further contributed to the development of area |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | youth through her work as a troop leader and a Christian Youth |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Fellowship council member; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A founding resident of the historic Pleasantville |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | community, Ms. Curvey is a longtime member of several neighborhood |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | organizations, including the Pleasantville Civic League, Voters |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | League, Historical Society, and Elders Council; moreover, she is a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | valued congregant of Disciples of Christ Christian Church, where |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | she has held a variety of leadership roles, and she has received |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | numerous awards for her activism and her dedicated efforts to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | benefit her fellow citizens; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who are privileged to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | know her, Maxine Curvey may reflect with great satisfaction on a |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | lifetime of achievement, and it is a pleasure to join her many |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | friends and loved ones in honoring her on this memorable occasion; |

| 32 | 32 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
