 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Brian Beck-Smith of DeSoto High School has been
 named the 2023 Secondary Teacher of the Year in the DeSoto
 Independent School District; and
 WHEREAS, A solid education is vital for young people to
 become successful and productive adults, and those men and women
 who dedicate their careers to teaching make a positive difference
 in the lives of their students and in the greater community; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Beck-Smith has taught mathematics at DeSoto
 High School since 2012; over the course of his tenure, he has also
 served as math team leader for Pre-AP and AP Mathematics, and he
 introduced the district's first advanced course involving
 multivariable calculus and linear algebra; in addition to his role
 at DeSoto High, he is an adjunct professor at the University of
 North Texas at Dallas and a mathematics lead teacher in the Future
 Comets Program at The University of Texas at Dallas; he holds a
 bachelor's degree from UTD and a master's degree from UNT Dallas,
 and he previously served as chair of the mathematics department at
 Lincoln High School in Dallas; and
 WHEREAS, Brian Beck-Smith exemplifies the passion,
 determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our
 best teachers, and he has set a standard of excellence to which all
 in his profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Brian Beck-Smith on his selection
 as the 2023 Secondary Teacher of the Year in the DeSoto Independent
 School District and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
 success with his important work; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Beck-Smith as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
