44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Each year, Texans join in celebrating the Fourth of
66 July in honor of the day America's founding fathers adopted one of
77 the landmark documents of modern history, the Declaration of
88 Independence; and
99 WHEREAS, Independence Day gatherings are a beloved American
1010 tradition, one that brings together citizens of many different
1111 backgrounds and that fosters a welcome sense of community; at such
1212 times, the Stars and Stripes waves proudly as individuals across
1313 the country pause to reflect on the ideals that undergird the great
1414 American experiment, a government of the people, by the people, and
1515 for the people; and
1616 WHEREAS, The dream envisioned by this nation's founders has
1717 not been secured without tremendous cost; from the colonial
1818 militias who skirmished with muskets to the brave men and women who
1919 serve today in the world's most sophisticated fighting force, the
2020 sacrifices of our troops have been extraordinary; we can never
2121 fully repay the debt owed to our military personnel for the service
2222 they have rendered or to their families for the deprivations they
2323 have endured; nonetheless, on this special day we extend our
2424 heartfelt gratitude and profound respect to those on the front
2525 lines and to their loved ones on the home front; and
2626 WHEREAS, The Fourth of July serves as a reminder of the solemn
2727 promise of freedom that has defined America since the delegates of
2828 the Continental Congress made their famous declaration in 1776; as
2929 Texans gather to celebrate Independence Day in 2023, we will give
3030 thanks for the blessing of self-government and pledge anew to
3131 uphold the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of
3232 happiness, axioms so eloquently affirmed at the birth of our
3333 nation; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3535 Legislature hereby commemorate the Fourth of July, 2023.
