| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, In commemoration of Gold Star Mother's Day on |

| 6 | 6 | | September 24, 2023, members of American Gold Star Mothers gather |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | across the nation to remember and pay heartfelt tribute to the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | beloved sons and daughters who gave their lives in service to our |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | country; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1928, American Gold Star Mothers is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | composed of women whose children, as U.S. service personnel, were |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | killed in action during times of war or conflict; the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | organization's name comes from the custom of hanging a service flag |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | for each member of the military, with blue stars for living soldiers |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and gold stars for those who perished in battle; in their efforts to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | honor and preserve the memory of their loved ones, Gold Star Mothers |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | host remembrance events, perform volunteer work at veterans |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | hospitals, and promote a message of respect and reverence for |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | members of the armed forces; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Gold Star Mother's Day is observed on the last |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Sunday in September, and each year, the president of the United |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | States issues a proclamation for the event that calls on all |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | citizens to display the Stars and Stripes as an expression of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | appreciation and support for Gold Star Mothers and their families; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Americans owe profound and eternal gratitude to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | freedom, and Gold Star Mother's Day provides a fitting time to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | reflect on and honor the selfless service of these patriotic men and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | women and to recognize the loss experienced by their mothers; now, |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby commemorate Gold Star Mother's Day 2023 and |
