| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, America's military veterans hold a revered place in |

| 6 | 6 | | the history of this country and in the hearts of its people, and on |

| 7 | 7 | | Veterans Day, November 11, 2023, Texans across the state are |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | gathering to pay grateful tribute to these selfless men and women; |
|---|

|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Originally celebrated as Armistice Day, in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | recognition of the day the guns of World War I fell silent, Veterans |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Day now honors all who have performed military service in this |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | country's behalf; their invincible spirit and dedication to duty, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in wartime and in peacetime, are deserving of their fellow |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | citizens' deepest appreciation and gratitude; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Service in the armed forces demands much of the men |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and women who undertake it, and the burdens assumed can be great; of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the legions who have answered their country's call, millions have |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | died or been wounded during wartime, countless others have endured |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the privations and hardships of POW camps, and thousands still |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | remain missing; those who have returned home from war have forever |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | carried with them an indelible knowledge of loss and sacrifice; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, To all these men and women, Americans owe a debt that |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the passage of time can never diminish; it is a debt that calls us to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | recognize their valiant service and to honor, in deeds as well as |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | words, those high ideals that represent the very best of this |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | nation's heritage; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby commemorate Veterans Day 2023 and honor all of |
