| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The board members of the Texas Renal Coalition and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the Texas Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force are gathering on |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | February 15, 2023, to take part in Rita L. Littlefield Kidney Day at |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This biennial event was established in 1997 by Rita |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Littlefield, a founding member of the Texas Renal Coalition and a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | member of the Texas Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force, who has |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | worked tirelessly for more than three decades in behalf of kidney |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | patients; in the drive to raise awareness of a very significant |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | medical issue, the gathering unites patients, health care |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | providers, and organizations, including the National Kidney |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Foundation, Texas Kidney Foundation, South Plains Kidney |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Foundation, and State Association of Medical Professionals; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Although kidney disease is a serious and rapidly |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | growing health problem, many Texans remain unaware that they are at |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | risk; left undetected, chronic kidney disease can lead to premature |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | death from heart disease or other complications, or to kidney |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | failure, requiring dialysis or a transplant to sustain life; early |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | detection and management can prevent or slow the progression of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | chronic kidney disease and decrease health care expenditures |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | associated with advanced kidney disease; moreover, the Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force has developed a state plan for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | chronic kidney disease treatment that has the potential to save |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | lives and reduce the financial burden of the disease; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Many medical professionals, organizations, and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | volunteers in the state are committed to ensuring the highest |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | quality of care for kidney patients; the Texas Renal Coalition |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | contributes significantly to this mission as it monitors health |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | policies for dialysis and transplant patients, offers education |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | programs to improve public awareness about the disease, and acts as |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | a clearinghouse for information related to legislative issues; and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Benefiting from the dedication and leadership of |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Rita Littlefield, the Texas Renal Coalition, the Texas Chronic |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Kidney Disease Task Force, and their associates have made a |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | positive difference in the lives of innumerable Texans, and it is |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | most fitting to recognize Ms. Littlefield and these organizations |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | for their achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 15, 2023, as Rita |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | L. Littlefield Kidney Day at the State Capitol. |
