44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The board members of the Texas Renal Coalition and
66 the Texas Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force are gathering on
77 February 15, 2023, to take part in Rita L. Littlefield Kidney Day at
88 the State Capitol; and
99 WHEREAS, This biennial event was established in 1997 by Rita
1010 Littlefield, a founding member of the Texas Renal Coalition and a
1111 member of the Texas Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force, who has
1212 worked tirelessly for more than three decades in behalf of kidney
1313 patients; in the drive to raise awareness of a very significant
1414 medical issue, the gathering unites patients, health care
1515 providers, and organizations, including the National Kidney
1616 Foundation, Texas Kidney Foundation, South Plains Kidney
1717 Foundation, and State Association of Medical Professionals; and
1818 WHEREAS, Although kidney disease is a serious and rapidly
1919 growing health problem, many Texans remain unaware that they are at
2020 risk; left undetected, chronic kidney disease can lead to premature
2121 death from heart disease or other complications, or to kidney
2222 failure, requiring dialysis or a transplant to sustain life; early
2323 detection and management can prevent or slow the progression of
2424 chronic kidney disease and decrease health care expenditures
2525 associated with advanced kidney disease; moreover, the Texas
2626 Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force has developed a state plan for
2727 chronic kidney disease treatment that has the potential to save
2828 lives and reduce the financial burden of the disease; and
2929 WHEREAS, Many medical professionals, organizations, and
3030 volunteers in the state are committed to ensuring the highest
3131 quality of care for kidney patients; the Texas Renal Coalition
3232 contributes significantly to this mission as it monitors health
3333 policies for dialysis and transplant patients, offers education
3434 programs to improve public awareness about the disease, and acts as
3535 a clearinghouse for information related to legislative issues; and
3636 WHEREAS, Benefiting from the dedication and leadership of
3737 Rita Littlefield, the Texas Renal Coalition, the Texas Chronic
3838 Kidney Disease Task Force, and their associates have made a
3939 positive difference in the lives of innumerable Texans, and it is
4040 most fitting to recognize Ms. Littlefield and these organizations
4141 for their achievements; now, therefore, be it
4242 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4343 Legislature hereby recognize February 15, 2023, as Rita
4444 L. Littlefield Kidney Day at the State Capitol.
