5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Harris County Precinct One Community Emergency |

6 | 6 | | Response Team, led by CERT coordinator John A. Branch, has worked |
---|
7 | 7 | | tirelessly to ensure that area communities are safer, stronger, and |
---|
8 | 8 | | better prepared; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, After helping to rebuild in the wake of Tropical |
---|
10 | 10 | | Storm Allison in 2001 and Hurricane Rita in 2005, Mr. Branch, a |
---|
11 | 11 | | longtime public servant, formed a team of volunteers to assist in |
---|
12 | 12 | | responding to the needs of the local community; the Precinct One |
---|
13 | 13 | | CERT holds free classes taught by first responders that equip |
---|
14 | 14 | | citizens with knowledge and resources to assist their families and |
---|
15 | 15 | | neighborhoods in the event of a disaster; the Houston program is |
---|
16 | 16 | | part of the Mayor's Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security |
---|
17 | 17 | | and the Harris County Citizen Corps; in addition, CERT volunteers |
---|
18 | 18 | | help with public events, such as the Extreme Weather Ready Expo and |
---|
19 | 19 | | BP MS 150, and serve on planning and hospitality committees for |
---|
20 | 20 | | future training events; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Through the dedicated advocacy of Mr. Branch, |
---|
22 | 22 | | Precinct One CERT opened a command center on February 19, 2022; the |
---|
23 | 23 | | first volunteer owned and operated CERT center in the state, the |
---|
24 | 24 | | facility serves as a location for emergency training classes and |
---|
25 | 25 | | includes a food pantry and resource center for vulnerable |
---|
26 | 26 | | residents; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding, Precinct One CERT has provided |
---|
28 | 28 | | invaluable assistance to the citizens of Harris County, and it is a |
---|
29 | 29 | | pleasure to recognize the many significant contributions of this |
---|
30 | 30 | | noteworthy organization; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby honor the Harris County Precinct One Community |
---|
33 | 33 | | Emergency Response Team for its service and extend to all those |
---|
34 | 34 | | associated with the team sincere best wishes for the future; and, be |
---|
35 | 35 | | it further |

36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
