55 WHEREAS, Captain Gualberto Torres retired from the Harlingen
66 Fire Department on May 19, 2023, drawing to a close a remarkable
77 career with the city that spanned nearly half a century; and
88 WHEREAS, Over the course of his tenure, Captain Torres has
99 served the citizens of Harlingen with unwavering dedication and
1010 selflessness and a deep commitment to public safety; he has
1111 demonstrated exceptional bravery and professionalism while
1212 responding to countless emergencies and working tirelessly to
1313 protect and save lives, and in so doing, he has set an inspiring
1414 example of public service for his colleagues; and
1515 WHEREAS, Captain Torres has been instrumental in shaping the
1616 Harlingen Fire Department into a highly respected and efficient
1717 emergency response organization; in addition, his focus on training
1818 and mentoring young recruits has helped the department continuously
1919 maintain high standards of excellence; and
2020 WHEREAS, Beyond his achievements as a fire service
2121 professional, Captain Torres has been an active and engaged member
2222 of the community; his compassion and commitment to service have
2323 extended far beyond the call of duty, and he has been a role model, a
2424 trusted resource, and a source of support for innumerable
2525 individuals in times of crisis; and
2626 WHEREAS, Although his retirement marks the end of an era for
2727 the Harlingen Fire Department, Captain Gualberto Torres has made an
2828 indelible impact on the community and on the firefighters who will
2929 continue to carry on the department's mission, and his
3030 contributions will be remembered and admired for many years to
3131 come; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3333 Legislature hereby congratulate Captain Gualberto Torres on his
3434 retirement from the Harlingen Fire Department and extend to him
3535 profound gratitude for his unfaltering commitment to protecting the
3636 lives and property of the people of Harlingen; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3838 prepared for Captain Torres as an expression of high regard by the
3939 Texas House of Representatives.
