55 WHEREAS, The JROTC drill team from Harlingen High School
66 proved itself one of the finest in the country with its
77 title-winning performance at the 2023 National High School Drill
88 Team Championship, held in Daytona Beach, Florida, on May 6 and 7;
99 and
1010 WHEREAS, Established in 1982, the National High School Drill
1111 Team Championship enables JROTC cadets from throughout the United
1212 States to demonstrate their skills in regulation, exhibition, color
1313 guard, and inspection disciplines in both armed and unarmed
1414 divisions; and
1515 WHEREAS, Competing under the name Silver Guard, the Harlingen
1616 High School drill team compiled a total of 4,379 points to earn top
1717 honors in the Division 3 Unarmed Overall category; and
1818 WHEREAS, In claiming the title, the Harlingen team received
1919 valuable contributions from each member of the roster: Jacqueline
2020 Acosta, Kaylie Dewitt, Mia Acosta, Sherlyn Aguilar, Naydeline Puga,
2121 Devannay Tellez, Kayli Barbosa, Cheyanne Deadman, Marie Garza,
2222 Alexa Serna, Grace Aguilar, Izaiah Rodriguez, Hayley Ruiz, Antonio
2323 Aguilar, and Giselle Garcia; these determined cadets benefited from
2424 the able guidance of instructors Master Sergeant (Ret.) Tony
2525 Gonzales and First Sergeant (Ret.) Leonard Robinson; and
2626 WHEREAS, Winning a drill team national championship is a
2727 remarkable achievement that results from exceptional discipline,
2828 outstanding precision, and an unwavering commitment to excellence,
2929 and the talented young men and women in the Harlingen High School
3030 JROTC program are a source of great pride for their school and
3131 community; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3333 Legislature hereby congratulate the Harlingen High School JROTC
3434 drill team on winning the Division 3 Unarmed Overall title at the
3535 2023 National High School Drill Team Championship and extend to the
3636 cadets and instructors sincere best wishes for continued success;
3737 and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4040 House of Representatives.
