No. 2310 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Alamodome in San Antonio celebrated its 30th anniversary on May 15, 2023, and this occasion offers a welcome opportunity to celebrate the venue's history and achievements; and WHEREAS, Owned and operated by the City of San Antonio, the Alamodome first opened its doors on May 15, 1993; in the decades since, the stadium has presented a wide variety of sporting events, including international soccer matches, world-title boxing fights, Major League Baseball games, and NCAA championships; moreover, the Valero Alamo Bowl football game has taken place at the Alamodome for all 30 years of its existence, and the stadium serves as home to The University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners football team; in addition to athletic competitions, the venue has hosted myriad trade shows, conventions, and special events, as well as concerts from world-famous musicians, such as Bad Bunny and Elton John; and WHEREAS, The Alamodome has welcomed more than 33 million visitors over the years, generating $2.7 billion in direct spending with a nearly $4 billion fiscal impact on San Antonio; almost half of all Alamodome attendees travel from outside the metropolitan area, making the stadium an important part of San Antonio's thriving tourism economy; the city's continuing efforts to appeal to visitors are furthered by the work of the Texas Legislative Tourism Caucus, a bicameral, bipartisan caucus chaired by State Representative Barbara Gervin-Hawkins; and WHEREAS, For the past three decades, the Alamodome has played a vital role in the culture and economy of San Antonio and the Lone Star State, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the stadium on the occasion of this notable milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Alamodome in San Antonio and extend to all those associated with the stadium sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Alamodome as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
