5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Arlington is marking its |

6 | 6 | | centennial with a special celebration on June 10, 2023; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Chartered on June 11, 1923, the Rotary Club of |
---|
8 | 8 | | Arlington is a local chapter of Rotary International, an |
---|
9 | 9 | | organization of business, professional, and community leaders who |
---|
10 | 10 | | are dedicated to providing humanitarian services and fostering |
---|
11 | 11 | | goodwill across the globe; since its founding, the members of the |
---|
12 | 12 | | Arlington club have steadfastly devoted themselves to the Rotary |
---|
13 | 13 | | concept of "Service Above Self" by taking part in service projects |
---|
14 | 14 | | benefiting people in their community and beyond; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Arlington has supported a variety |
---|
16 | 16 | | of initiatives in behalf of students in Arlington ISD, including a |
---|
17 | 17 | | scholarship program and a backpack giveaway at the club's sponsored |
---|
18 | 18 | | school, Webb Elementary; its many other good works have included |
---|
19 | 19 | | hosting the "Signs of Humanity" homelessness awareness event, |
---|
20 | 20 | | donating clothing and toys for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree |
---|
21 | 21 | | program, and conducting blood drives in partnership with Carter |
---|
22 | 22 | | Blood Care; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The men and women of this dynamic organization have |
---|
24 | 24 | | also given generously of their time, talents, and resources to |
---|
25 | 25 | | international causes; alongside other clubs in the area, the Rotary |
---|
26 | 26 | | Club of Arlington has undertaken an effort to supply water filters |
---|
27 | 27 | | for some 25,000 villagers in Honduras; in addition, when Nepal was |
---|
28 | 28 | | struck by a devastating earthquake in April 2015, the Rotary Club of |
---|
29 | 29 | | Arlington stepped forward to help rebuild damaged school |
---|
30 | 30 | | facilities, allowing more than 800 students to return to classes in |
---|
31 | 31 | | the aftermath of the disaster; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, In honor of its 100th anniversary, the club recently |
---|
33 | 33 | | commissioned a sculpture from Brooklyn-based artist Jen Lewin that |
---|
34 | 34 | | is being installed at the new Rotary Dream Park in Arlington; |
---|
35 | 35 | | incorporating the organization's iconic logo, the interactive |
---|
36 | 36 | | piece consists of a 17-foot wheel made from steel and colorful |
---|
37 | 37 | | mirrors as well as a rotary gear on the ground with spokes that |
---|
38 | 38 | | visitors will be able to step on to activate light and movement; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Arlington has made a positive |
---|
40 | 40 | | impact in the lives of countless people through the collective |
---|
41 | 41 | | efforts of its members, past and present, and it is indeed a |
---|
42 | 42 | | pleasure to join in marking this momentous milestone in the |
---|
43 | 43 | | organization's history; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature hereby honor the Rotary Club of Arlington on the |
---|
46 | 46 | | occasion of its 100th anniversary and extend to all those |
---|
47 | 47 | | associated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued |
---|
48 | 48 | | success with their important work; and, be it further |

49 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
