44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Arlington is marking its
66 centennial with a special celebration on June 10, 2023; and
77 WHEREAS, Chartered on June 11, 1923, the Rotary Club of
88 Arlington is a local chapter of Rotary International, an
99 organization of business, professional, and community leaders who
1010 are dedicated to providing humanitarian services and fostering
1111 goodwill across the globe; since its founding, the members of the
1212 Arlington club have steadfastly devoted themselves to the Rotary
1313 concept of "Service Above Self" by taking part in service projects
1414 benefiting people in their community and beyond; and
1515 WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Arlington has supported a variety
1616 of initiatives in behalf of students in Arlington ISD, including a
1717 scholarship program and a backpack giveaway at the club's sponsored
1818 school, Webb Elementary; its many other good works have included
1919 hosting the "Signs of Humanity" homelessness awareness event,
2020 donating clothing and toys for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree
2121 program, and conducting blood drives in partnership with Carter
2222 Blood Care; and
2323 WHEREAS, The men and women of this dynamic organization have
2424 also given generously of their time, talents, and resources to
2525 international causes; alongside other clubs in the area, the Rotary
2626 Club of Arlington has undertaken an effort to supply water filters
2727 for some 25,000 villagers in Honduras; in addition, when Nepal was
2828 struck by a devastating earthquake in April 2015, the Rotary Club of
2929 Arlington stepped forward to help rebuild damaged school
3030 facilities, allowing more than 800 students to return to classes in
3131 the aftermath of the disaster; and
3232 WHEREAS, In honor of its 100th anniversary, the club recently
3333 commissioned a sculpture from Brooklyn-based artist Jen Lewin that
3434 is being installed at the new Rotary Dream Park in Arlington;
3535 incorporating the organization's iconic logo, the interactive
3636 piece consists of a 17-foot wheel made from steel and colorful
3737 mirrors as well as a rotary gear on the ground with spokes that
3838 visitors will be able to step on to activate light and movement; and
3939 WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Arlington has made a positive
4040 impact in the lives of countless people through the collective
4141 efforts of its members, past and present, and it is indeed a
4242 pleasure to join in marking this momentous milestone in the
4343 organization's history; now, therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4545 Legislature hereby honor the Rotary Club of Arlington on the
4646 occasion of its 100th anniversary and extend to all those
4747 associated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued
4848 success with their important work; and, be it further
4949 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5050 prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5151 House of Representatives.
