5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Jerry L. Hickman on August 28, 2022, at the age of 79; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The son of Charles and Margaret "Scottie" Hickman, |
---|
8 | 8 | | Jerry Hickman was born on October 7, 1942, in Dallas and grew up |
---|
9 | 9 | | sharing in the companionship of three siblings, Becky, Charles, and |
---|
10 | 10 | | Mikey; he graduated from Roswell High School in 1961 and went on to |
---|
11 | 11 | | earn a bachelor's degree in sociology from Midwestern State |
---|
12 | 12 | | University, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa; a veteran of |
---|
13 | 13 | | the U.S. Navy, he was stationed on the USS Bonhomme Richard aircraft |
---|
14 | 14 | | carrier; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, After earning a master's degree in sociology from |
---|
16 | 16 | | Texas Tech University, Mr. Hickman started his career at the Texas |
---|
17 | 17 | | Rehabilitation Commission as a counselor, and he went on to become a |
---|
18 | 18 | | regional director, a position he held until retirement; he received |
---|
19 | 19 | | recognition as an outstanding manager of the local TRC office; he |
---|
20 | 20 | | also participated in numerous YMCA programs and helped |
---|
21 | 21 | | underprivileged children and children with disabilities through |
---|
22 | 22 | | the YMCA Office of Economic Opportunity; in his leisure time, he |
---|
23 | 23 | | enjoyed running, hiking, and playing racquetball and golf; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hickman took great pride in his daughter, |
---|
25 | 25 | | Shanna, and with the passing years, he had the privilege of seeing |
---|
26 | 26 | | his family grow to include a beloved granddaughter, Emma; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Known for his loyalty, his honesty, and his |
---|
28 | 28 | | dedication to helping others, Jerry Hickman touched countless lives |
---|
29 | 29 | | during his journey on this earth, and he will forever be remembered |
---|
30 | 30 | | with admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jerry L. Hickman and |
---|
33 | 33 | | extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | further |

35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
