44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
66 passing of Jerry L. Hickman on August 28, 2022, at the age of 79; and
77 WHEREAS, The son of Charles and Margaret "Scottie" Hickman,
88 Jerry Hickman was born on October 7, 1942, in Dallas and grew up
99 sharing in the companionship of three siblings, Becky, Charles, and
1010 Mikey; he graduated from Roswell High School in 1961 and went on to
1111 earn a bachelor's degree in sociology from Midwestern State
1212 University, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa; a veteran of
1313 the U.S. Navy, he was stationed on the USS Bonhomme Richard aircraft
1414 carrier; and
1515 WHEREAS, After earning a master's degree in sociology from
1616 Texas Tech University, Mr. Hickman started his career at the Texas
1717 Rehabilitation Commission as a counselor, and he went on to become a
1818 regional director, a position he held until retirement; he received
1919 recognition as an outstanding manager of the local TRC office; he
2020 also participated in numerous YMCA programs and helped
2121 underprivileged children and children with disabilities through
2222 the YMCA Office of Economic Opportunity; in his leisure time, he
2323 enjoyed running, hiking, and playing racquetball and golf; and
2424 WHEREAS, Mr. Hickman took great pride in his daughter,
2525 Shanna, and with the passing years, he had the privilege of seeing
2626 his family grow to include a beloved granddaughter, Emma; and
2727 WHEREAS, Known for his loyalty, his honesty, and his
2828 dedication to helping others, Jerry Hickman touched countless lives
2929 during his journey on this earth, and he will forever be remembered
3030 with admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3232 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jerry L. Hickman and
3333 extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be it
3434 further
3535 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3636 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3737 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jerry
3838 Hickman.
