| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Jimmy and Betty McCain of Calallen have received |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | well-deserved recognition with the dedication of the 2023 Nueces |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | County Junior Livestock Show in their honor; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. McCain are being recognized at the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Nueces County Junior Livestock Show for their decades of volunteer |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | service in support of the local 4-H and FFA club members who |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | participate in the competition; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Jimmy McCain first became involved with the junior |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | livestock show nearly 75 years ago, when he was nine years old and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | raising his first show pig as a member of the Banquete 4-H Club; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | during his high school years with the Banquete FFA chapter, he |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | exhibited capons in the poultry division, securing grand champion |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | honors in 1953 and 1954; as a young adult, he helped conduct the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | show as a volunteer, and he later served the stock show association |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | as general livestock superintendent and swine committee chair; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Betty McCain has also provided innumerable hours of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | volunteer work to the livestock show; for years, she was the records |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | clerk for the swine division, and over the course of four decades, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | she and her husband lent their time and talent to the swine |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | committee; Mrs. McCain even found time to prepare hot lunches for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | committee members on show days, and she was the hit of the 50th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | anniversary livestock show almost 40 years ago when she appeared in |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | full costume as a fictitious show queen; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In the late 1990s, Mr. and Mrs. McCain were |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | recruited to serve on the swine committee at the San Antonio Stock |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Show and Rodeo, which oversees one of the largest swine shows in the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | nation; Mr. McCain co-chaired the committee for five years while |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | continuing to support the Nueces County swine show; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Jimmy and Betty McCain have made a positive |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | difference in the lives of countless young Texans through their |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | efforts in behalf of the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show, and it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | is truly a pleasure to commend them for their contributions; now, |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | therefore, be it |

| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Jimmy and Betty McCain on the |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | dedication of the 2023 Nueces County Junior Livestock Show in their |

| 41 | 41 | | honor and extend to the couple sincere appreciation for their many |

| 42 | 42 | | years of service; and, be it further |
