5	5	WHEREAS, Texas native Jack Ingram has been selected for
6	6	induction into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame as a member of the
7	7	Class of 2024; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Each year, the Texas Heritage Songwriters
9	9	Association holds an annual hall of fame awards ceremony to
10	10	recognize songwriters who represent the spirit of the Lone Star
11	11	State; and
12	12	WHEREAS, One of the most successful artists to emerge from
13	13	the 1990s "Texas Country" scene, Jack Owen Ingram grew up in The
14	14	Woodlands loving country music but did not begin playing guitar and
15	15	writing songs until his freshman year at Southern Methodist
16	16	University; early in his career, he cut his teeth at Adair's Saloon,
17	17	an institution of the Deep Ellum entertainment district, and he and
18	18	his band quickly gained a reputation across the state for their
19	19	charismatic live performances; at the age of 22, he self-released
20	20	his debut, Jack Ingram, featuring takes on Willie Nelson and Robert
21	21	Earl Keen tunes as well as the original "Beat Up Ford," a song that
22	22	would become an anthem to a generation of Texas country music fans;
23	23	he cemented his status as one of the state's most promising
24	24	songwriters with his subsequent albums, Lonesome Questions and Live
25	25	at Adair's, which sold tens of thousands of copies despite a lack of
26	26	major label support; and
27	27	WHEREAS, Warner Music Group signed Mr. Ingram to its Rising
28	28	Tide offshoot in 1996, and he recorded Livin' or Dyin' with the
29	29	support of legendary Texas songwriter Steve Earle; the label folded
30	30	shortly after releasing the album, and he was then picked up by
31	31	Sony's Lucky Dog imprint, where he released Hey You in 1999 and
32	32	Electric in 2002, albums widely regarded as two of his best; he
33	33	scored a number one country single with "Wherever You Are," in 2005,
34	34	and his eighth studio album, Big Dreams & High Hopes, featured the
35	35	top-10 hit, "Barefoot and Crazy"; in the following decade, he found
36	36	further success with Midnight Motel, one of his most personal and
37	37	heartfelt efforts; The Marfa Tapes, his 2021 release with Miranda
38	38	Lambert and Jon Randall, was nominated for a Grammy Award for best
39	39	country album; and
40	40	WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Ingram has given generously of
41	41	his time and talents to countless charitable groups, and his work as
42	42	part of Mack, Jack, and McConaughey with former football coach Mack
43	43	Brown and actor Matthew McConaughey has raised millions of dollars
44	44	for children's causes; a mentor to younger artists, Mr. Ingram is
45	45	also a supporter of Texas Songwriter U, an annual program
46	46	consisting of a songwriting competition, an educational workshop,
47	47	and a showcase event; and
48	48	WHEREAS, With his beautifully crafted songs that exemplify
49	49	the independent spirit of Texas music, Jack Ingram has earned a
50	50	special place in the pantheon of singer-songwriters from the Lone
51	51	Star State, and he is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor;
52	52	now, therefore, be it
53	53	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
54	54	Legislature hereby congratulate Jack Ingram on his selection as a
55	55	2024 inductee into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame and extend to
56	56	him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
57	57	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
58	58	prepared for Mr. Ingram as an expression of high regard by the Texas
59	59	House of Representatives.
