 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Roosevelt Weeks of the Austin Public Library has
 been named the 2023 Librarian of the Year by the Texas Library
 Association; and
 WHEREAS, TLA annually presents the Librarian of the Year
 Award to a librarian who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership
 and service in the library community; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Weeks currently serves as director of libraries
 for Austin Public Library, and he led the movement to pass an Austin
 City Council ordinance to eliminate overdue fines for library
 materials that are returned or renewed after their due date; he also
 played an instrumental role in expanding access to APL materials by
 eliminating the nonresident fee for library cards for Travis County
 students that live outside the City of Austin, and he has worked
 with local school districts to issue library cards to all students;
 and
 WHEREAS, A leader in his profession, Mr. Weeks serves as the
 representative-at-large for public libraries on the TLA executive
 board, and he is the vice chair and chair-elect of the Urban
 Libraries Council; he is also a member of the Waterloo Greenway
 board of directors, The University of Texas Libraries Advisory
 Council, the University of North Texas College of Information board
 of advisors, the Texas Book Festival board of advisors, and a number
 of other library and literacy boards and committees; and
 WHEREAS, Through his dedication, expertise, and commitment
 to excellence, Roosevelt Weeks has greatly benefited the patrons of
 Austin Public Library while earning the respect and admiration of
 his colleagues, and he is indeed deserving of this prestigious
 honor; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Roosevelt Weeks on being named
 Librarian of the Year by the Texas Library Association and extend to
 him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Weeks as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
