| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Roosevelt Weeks of the Austin Public Library has |

| 6 | 6 | | been named the 2023 Librarian of the Year by the Texas Library |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Association; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, TLA annually presents the Librarian of the Year |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Award to a librarian who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and service in the library community; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Weeks currently serves as director of libraries |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | for Austin Public Library, and he led the movement to pass an Austin |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | City Council ordinance to eliminate overdue fines for library |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | materials that are returned or renewed after their due date; he also |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | played an instrumental role in expanding access to APL materials by |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | eliminating the nonresident fee for library cards for Travis County |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | students that live outside the City of Austin, and he has worked |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | with local school districts to issue library cards to all students; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A leader in his profession, Mr. Weeks serves as the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | representative-at-large for public libraries on the TLA executive |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | board, and he is the vice chair and chair-elect of the Urban |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Libraries Council; he is also a member of the Waterloo Greenway |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | board of directors, The University of Texas Libraries Advisory |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Council, the University of North Texas College of Information board |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of advisors, the Texas Book Festival board of advisors, and a number |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of other library and literacy boards and committees; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Through his dedication, expertise, and commitment |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | to excellence, Roosevelt Weeks has greatly benefited the patrons of |

| 30 | 30 | | Austin Public Library while earning the respect and admiration of |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | his colleagues, and he is indeed deserving of this prestigious |

| 32 | 32 | | honor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Roosevelt Weeks on being named |

| 35 | 35 | | Librarian of the Year by the Texas Library Association and extend to |

| 36 | 36 | | him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
