| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Houston Assembly of Delphian Chapters is |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2023, providing a fitting |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | opportunity to recognize the organization for its myriad |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | contributions to the community; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, HADC traces its origins to November 16, 1923, when |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the Owl Delphian chapter was founded with a membership of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | approximately 35 women; an additional chapter, Theta Delphian, was |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | created, and by the end of 1924, four Delphian chapters existed in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Houston; dedicated to helping women earn degrees from the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | University of Houston, which was then a junior college, the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | organization awarded its first scholarship in 1930; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The Delphian scholarship program went on to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | experience tremendous growth, and in 1957, the annual Delphian |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Scholarship Ball was established as the major source of funds for |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | grants and scholarships; in 2014, the Delphian Endowment |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Scholarship was put into place at the University of Houston; today, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | HADC is composed of 10 chapters, and the organization's members |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | remain committed to intellectual enrichment, social enhancement, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and philanthropic endeavors; HADC continues to award scholarships |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to students at UH and the University of Houston-Downtown, and to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | date, it has given more than $1.5 million in financial assistance to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Delphian Scholars; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Houston Assembly of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Delphian Chapters has made an untold impact in the lives of many |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | women in the Greater Houston area, and it is a pleasure to join in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | commemorating this special milestone in the organization's |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor the Houston Assembly of Delphian Chapters |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | on the occasion of its 100th anniversary and extend to all those |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | associated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | success with their important work; and, be it further |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 38 | 38 | | prepared for HADC as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
|---|
