5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The iconic boot company Lucchese Bootmaker is |

6 | 6 | | celebrating its 140th anniversary in 2023; and |

7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, In 1883, Salvatore and Joseph Lucchese, the sons of |
---|
8 | 8 | | an Italian shoemaker, settled in San Antonio and established a shop |
---|
9 | 9 | | to make boots for the U.S. Cavalry school at Fort Sam Houston; the |
---|
10 | 10 | | business flourished, and in 1910, it recorded its first |
---|
11 | 11 | | international customer; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In 1929, four months after the death of Salvatore |
---|
13 | 13 | | Lucchese, Lucchese was incorporated by president S. L. Gill, vice |
---|
14 | 14 | | president, and son of Salvatore, Cosimo Lucchese, and secretary |
---|
15 | 15 | | M. Millken; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Early customers included Robert J. Kleberg Sr. of |
---|
17 | 17 | | the famed King Ranch, General Frank Purdy Lahm, the U.S. Army's |
---|
18 | 18 | | first certified pilot, and Charles Kreuz Sr., founder of the famous |
---|
19 | 19 | | Kreuz Market barbecue restaurant; then-vice president-elect Lyndon |
---|
20 | 20 | | B. Johnson gave Lucchese boots to Caroline Kennedy, daughter of |
---|
21 | 21 | | then-president-elect John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy, and he |
---|
22 | 22 | | was photographed wearing Lucchese boots on his ranch as president |
---|
23 | 23 | | in 1968; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Lucchese operations moved to El Paso in 1986; more |
---|
25 | 25 | | recently, Lucchese has raised its profile through partnerships with |
---|
26 | 26 | | the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and the athletics departments of |
---|
27 | 27 | | Texas A&M University and The University of Texas; in addition, it |
---|
28 | 28 | | made the boots for State Fair of Texas icon Big Tex; the company |
---|
29 | 29 | | currently operates 20 stores, 15 of which are in the Lone Star |
---|
30 | 30 | | State; and |

31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of 140 years, Lucchese has built a |
---|
32 | 32 | | loyal following across the country and beyond its borders while |
---|
33 | 33 | | contributing significantly to the prosperity of Texas, attaining |
---|
34 | 34 | | the status of a treasured institution; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Lucchese Bootmaker on its 140th |
---|
37 | 37 | | anniversary and extend to all those associated with the company |
---|
38 | 38 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
