55 WHEREAS, For nearly 30 years, Laura G. Tamez of San Antonio
66 has fiercely advocated to preserve for her clients the rights
77 guaranteed in the 1876 Texas Constitution; and
88 WHEREAS, A partner-shareholder in the Herrera Law Firm,
99 Ms. Tamez serves as the 2023 president of the Texas Trial Lawyers
1010 Association; she was previously president of the San Antonio Trial
1111 Lawyers Association, and she has held a number of high offices in
1212 the TTLA, SATLA, the American Association for Justice, and other
1313 professional organizations; and
1414 WHEREAS, Ms. Tamez has testified on many occasions in the
1515 Texas Legislature, including in the House Committees on Judiciary
1616 and Civil Jurisprudence, Business and Industry, and Insurance and
1717 in the Senate Committees on State Affairs and Jurisprudence; and
1818 WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous honors, Ms. Tamez has
1919 received the TTLA's Don Bowen Distinguished Service Award and
2020 Michael Gallagher Legislative Advocacy Award, the San Antonio Bar
2121 Association's Legal Award for advocacy for injured migrants, and
2222 the SATLA Pat Maloney Sr. Courage Award; moreover, she has been
2323 recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer and featured in Scene in S.A.'s
2424 Inaugural List of San Antonio's Outstanding Women in the Law; and
2525 WHEREAS, Ms. Tamez has authored professional articles and
2626 presented at legal seminars around the nation, often focusing on
2727 construction/oil and gas accident litigation and on traumatic brain
2828 injury; and
2929 WHEREAS, Dedicated to her community, Ms. Tamez has served in
3030 numerous volunteer capacities, including as co-chair of both the
3131 San Antonio Area Foundation's Women and Girls Development Fund and
3232 the National Association of Women Judges Conference held in
3333 San Antonio; and
3434 WHEREAS, Ms. Tamez is a graduate of Texas A&M University and
3535 St. Mary's University School of Law, where she was honored with the
3636 Hispanic Law Alumni Association Henry B. Gonzalez Achievement Award
3737 for her work representing injured workers; in all her endeavors,
3838 she enjoys the love and support of her husband, George, and their
3939 children, Elena and Carlos; and
4040 WHEREAS, Laura Tamez has distinguished herself through her
4141 wide-ranging accomplishments, and her dedication to her clients and
4242 steadfast commitment to the Bill of Rights of the Texas
4343 Constitution are a source of inspiration to all; now, therefore, be
4444 it
4545 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4646 Legislature hereby honor Laura G. Tamez for her contributions to
4747 the legal profession and to public policy and extend to her sincere
4848 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
4949 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5050 prepared for Ms. Tamez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5151 House of Representatives.
