| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas State Historical |

| 10 | 10 | | Association, Texas History Day is a yearlong program that offers |

| 11 | 11 | | students an opportunity to develop research and critical thinking |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | skills while learning more about historical events; individuals |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | participating in the program conduct research on a particular topic |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and then present their findings through an exhibit, performance, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | documentary, paper, or website; the theme for the 2023 contest was |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | "Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas"; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Facing off against regional winners from across the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | state, Alexandra Hamilton and Danielle Burke of Travis High School |

| 19 | 19 | | won first place in the senior division group website category with |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | their entry titled "A Time for Greatness: JFK's New Frontier and a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Revitalized America"; throughout the year, they benefited from the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | support of their teacher, David Householder; the pair will travel |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | to the University of Maryland at College Park to participate in the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | National History Day competition from June 11 to 15, and they will |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | be accompanied by FBISD staff members Matt Lyons, tech integration |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | specialist, as well as Jennifer Chadwick, director of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | social-emotional learning & enrichment programs; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Gautham Venkataraman, a student of the Gifted and |

| 29 | 29 | | Talented Academy at Quail Valley Middle School, distinguished |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | himself by winning first place in the junior division individual |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | documentary category with his entry, "Fritz Haber: The Good, The |

| 32 | 32 | | Bad, The Ugly"; throughout the year, he has benefited from the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | guidance of his teacher, Lawrence Duvernay; and |

| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, With their fine showing at the Texas History Day |

| 35 | 35 | | competition, these talented young Texans have brought tremendous |

| 36 | 36 | | pride to their schools and their communities, and they are indeed |

| 37 | 37 | | deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it |

| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Alexandra Hamilton, Danielle |
