55 WHEREAS, Three students of the Fort Bend Independent School
66 District earned great distinction with their outstanding
77 presentations at the Texas History Day contest, which was held at
88 The University of Texas at Austin on April 15, 2023; and
99 WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas State Historical
1010 Association, Texas History Day is a yearlong program that offers
1111 students an opportunity to develop research and critical thinking
1212 skills while learning more about historical events; individuals
1313 participating in the program conduct research on a particular topic
1414 and then present their findings through an exhibit, performance,
1515 documentary, paper, or website; the theme for the 2023 contest was
1616 "Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas"; and
1717 WHEREAS, Facing off against regional winners from across the
1818 state, Alexandra Hamilton and Danielle Burke of Travis High School
1919 won first place in the senior division group website category with
2020 their entry titled "A Time for Greatness: JFK's New Frontier and a
2121 Revitalized America"; throughout the year, they benefited from the
2222 support of their teacher, David Householder; the pair will travel
2323 to the University of Maryland at College Park to participate in the
2424 National History Day competition from June 11 to 15, and they will
2525 be accompanied by FBISD staff members Matt Lyons, tech integration
2626 specialist, as well as Jennifer Chadwick, director of
2727 social-emotional learning & enrichment programs; and
2828 WHEREAS, Gautham Venkataraman, a student of the Gifted and
2929 Talented Academy at Quail Valley Middle School, distinguished
3030 himself by winning first place in the junior division individual
3131 documentary category with his entry, "Fritz Haber: The Good, The
3232 Bad, The Ugly"; throughout the year, he has benefited from the
3333 guidance of his teacher, Lawrence Duvernay; and
3434 WHEREAS, With their fine showing at the Texas History Day
3535 competition, these talented young Texans have brought tremendous
3636 pride to their schools and their communities, and they are indeed
3737 deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3939 Legislature hereby congratulate Alexandra Hamilton, Danielle
4040 Burke, and Gautham Venkataraman on their success at the 2023 Texas
4141 History Day contest and extend to them sincere best wishes for the
4242 future; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
4444 for the students as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
4545 of Representatives.
