| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Positive Women's Network (PWN) Texas Strike |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Force is gathering in Austin on March 27, 2023, for the seventh |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | biennial HIV Advocacy Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, This event is a statewide effort to bring together |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Texans living with or affected by HIV and AIDS in order to promote |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | awareness and visibility of this health epidemic; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The Department of State Health Services estimates |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | that Texas is currently home to nearly 98,000 people with HIV, a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | reality with incalculable public health, social, and financial |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | consequences; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, While there have been enormous medical and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | scientific advancements to assist those living with HIV, there is |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | still more to be done to combat the stigma that impedes efforts to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | end the HIV epidemic; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The many intersectional barriers that Texans living |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | with HIV face have led to the formation of the PWN Texas Strike |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Force, which is composed of partner organizations and advocates |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | from Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and other communities; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Every legislative session, HIV Advocacy Day |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | provides concerned citizens from all walks of life with the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | opportunity to meet with state lawmakers and make their voices |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | heard on this critical public health issue, and all those taking |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | part in this important initiative are to be commended for their |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 27, 2023, as HIV Advocacy Day at |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the State Capitol and extend sincere appreciation to the Positive |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Women's Network Texas Strike Force for its invaluable work; and, be |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | it further |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
