88R33304 BPG-D By: Muñoz, Jr. H.R. No. 2447 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Residents of Palmview lost an admired civic leader with the passing of the city's longest-serving mayor, Jorge G. Garcia, on May 24, 2023, at the age of 91; and WHEREAS, The son of Indalecio and Maria Garcia, Jorge Garcia was born on July 7, 1931; he grew up with a brother, Jose "Pepe", and three sisters, Amelia, Herlinda, and Alicia; during the Korean War, he served his country in the U.S. Army; and WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia was mayor of Palmview from 1995 to 2014; he worked tirelessly to keep taxes historically low while providing friendly service to residents and improving the police, fire, and rescue departments, as well as the Boys and Girls Club fields; in addition, he fostered a positive environment for small business development; during his tenure, the city also welcomed such major establishments as AutoZone, Walgreens, and Little Caesars, and he was most proud of bringing the HEB grocery store to the community; he further served his fellow citizens as a trustee of the La Joya Independent School District; and WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Garcia shared a fulfilling marriage with his wife, Irene M. Garcia, until her passing, and he was the proud father of a daughter, Debra; he leaves two grandsons and four great-grandchildren to cherish his memory, while one grandson, Eliseo "Eli" Flores, preceded him in death; and WHEREAS, Although Jorge Garcia is sadly missed by those he left behind, they will continue to find inspiration in his dedication to his loved ones, his faith, his community, and his country; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jorge G. Garcia and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his daughter, Debra G. Flores, and her husband, Ismael "Kino" Flores Sr.; to his grandsons, Ismael "Kino" Flores Jr. and his wife, Vanessa, and Eric Daniel Flores and his wife, Victoria; to his great-grandchildren, Fitzgerald F., Elaina Grace, Fletcher F., and James A. Flores; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jorge G. Garcia.
