5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Palmview lost an admired civic leader |

6 | 6 | | with the passing of the city's longest-serving mayor, Jorge G. |
---|
7 | 7 | | Garcia, on May 24, 2023, at the age of 91; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Indalecio and Maria Garcia, Jorge Garcia |
---|
9 | 9 | | was born on July 7, 1931; he grew up with a brother, Jose "Pepe", and |
---|
10 | 10 | | three sisters, Amelia, Herlinda, and Alicia; during the Korean War, |
---|
11 | 11 | | he served his country in the U.S. Army; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia was mayor of Palmview from 1995 to 2014; |
---|
13 | 13 | | he worked tirelessly to keep taxes historically low while providing |
---|
14 | 14 | | friendly service to residents and improving the police, fire, and |
---|
15 | 15 | | rescue departments, as well as the Boys and Girls Club fields; in |
---|
16 | 16 | | addition, he fostered a positive environment for small business |
---|
17 | 17 | | development; during his tenure, the city also welcomed such major |
---|
18 | 18 | | establishments as AutoZone, Walgreens, and Little Caesars, and he |
---|
19 | 19 | | was most proud of bringing the HEB grocery store to the community; |
---|
20 | 20 | | he further served his fellow citizens as a trustee of the La Joya |
---|
21 | 21 | | Independent School District; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Garcia shared a |
---|
23 | 23 | | fulfilling marriage with his wife, Irene M. Garcia, until her |
---|
24 | 24 | | passing, and he was the proud father of a daughter, Debra; he leaves |
---|
25 | 25 | | two grandsons and four great-grandchildren to cherish his memory, |
---|
26 | 26 | | while one grandson, Eliseo "Eli" Flores, preceded him in death; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Although Jorge Garcia is sadly missed by those he |
---|
28 | 28 | | left behind, they will continue to find inspiration in his |
---|
29 | 29 | | dedication to his loved ones, his faith, his community, and his |
---|
30 | 30 | | country; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jorge G. Garcia and |
---|
33 | 33 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
---|
34 | 34 | | daughter, Debra G. Flores, and her husband, Ismael "Kino" |
---|
35 | 35 | | Flores Sr.; to his grandsons, Ismael "Kino" Flores Jr. and his |
---|
36 | 36 | | wife, Vanessa, and Eric Daniel Flores and his wife, Victoria; to his |

37 | 37 | | great-grandchildren, Fitzgerald F., Elaina Grace, Fletcher F., and |
