| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Fly, Lower, and Gather Program is hosting a Flag |

| 6 | 6 | | Day Celebration on June 10, 2023; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Each year, Americans celebrate Flag Day to mark the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | anniversary of the official adoption of the Stars and Stripes on |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | June 14, 1777; the annual event dates back to 1885, when a Wisconsin |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | public school teacher arranged for his students to commemorate |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | "Flag Birthday," and celebrations were held throughout the late |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 19th century by the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia, the New York |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Society of the Sons of the Revolution, and the National Society of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | establishing Flag Day as a nationwide observance; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Jim Rodriguez |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of Waxahachie founded the Fly, Lower, and Gather Program in 2010 to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | help students learn about the history of the American flag, as well |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | as the time-honored protocol surrounding its display; the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | initiative encourages youngsters to take pride in their country and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | their flag, and it has since been implemented by many schools in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Texas and beyond; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The F.L.A.G. Program has instilled in numerous young |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | people a greater sense of patriotism, and the organization's Flag |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Day Celebration serves as an occasion to reflect on the legacy of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Old Glory and on the national heritage for which it stands; now, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the F.L.A.G. Program's 2023 Flag Day |

| 31 | 31 | | Celebration and extend to all those in attendance sincere best |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | wishes for a meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further |
