| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Veteran Women's Enterprise Center is hosting an |

| 6 | 6 | | event to mark the sixth annual Women Veterans Day on June 12, 2023; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The founder and director of the Veteran Women's |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Enterprise Center is V. R. Small, a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and a dynamic advocate for women veterans; she testified in support |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of the bill passed in 2017 by the 85th Texas Legislature that |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | designated June 12 of each year as Women Veterans Day; the inaugural |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | observance fell on the 70th anniversary of the passage of the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Women's Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, which enabled women |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to serve as permanent, regular members of the U.S. Army, Navy, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Marine Corps, and Air Force; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, increasing numbers of American |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | women have joined the nation's military, and their steadfast |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | efforts in myriad capacities advance the missions of every branch |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of the armed forces; the experience and expertise they acquire |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | during their service become immensely valuable assets to their |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | communities when they return to civilian life, and the Lone Star |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | State benefits significantly as home to the country's largest |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | population of women veterans; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The Veteran Women's Enterprise Center works to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | foster the professional development of these skilled and dynamic |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Texans, and accordingly, the center will be celebrating Women |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Veterans Day with its fourth annual Women Veteran's Pitch |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Competition, when a panel of judges will evaluate pitch proposals |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | from women veterans for exciting new businesses; in addition, the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | organization is holding a White Diamond Gala featuring a traveling |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | memorial exhibit and a performance by the Dallas Symphony; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, The brave women who have answered our nation's call |

| 34 | 34 | | to duty are a source of tremendous pride to all Texans, and it is |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | truly a pleasure to join in honoring their courage, patriotism, and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | commitment; now, therefore, be it |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby commemorate Women Veterans Day 2023 and extend |

| 39 | 39 | | to the Veteran Women's Enterprise Center sincere best wishes for |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | continued success in its important endeavors; and, be it further |

| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
