5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Koepp Chevrolet in La Vernia is celebrating the |

6 | 6 | | 100th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, This venerable enterprise was established in 1923 by |
---|
8 | 8 | | Ewald Otto Koepp, a cotton farmer, and in the early years, the |
---|
9 | 9 | | garage provided maintenance on vehicles, operated a single gas |
---|
10 | 10 | | pump, and sold tires; in the late 1920s, it became an authorized |
---|
11 | 11 | | dealer for Chevrolet; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, After weathering the Depression and World War II, |
---|
13 | 13 | | the company began to offer additional services; Mr. Koepp became a |
---|
14 | 14 | | notary public and performed state vehicle inspections, and his |
---|
15 | 15 | | staff managed the bus stop in front of the garage that brought in |
---|
16 | 16 | | passengers from San Antonio; Mr. Koepp's efforts to better the |
---|
17 | 17 | | community included serving on boards that brought electricity and |
---|
18 | 18 | | running water to the area, maintaining local fire equipment, and |
---|
19 | 19 | | building a local playground; committed to education, he also played |
---|
20 | 20 | | an integral role in the creation of the La Vernia Independent School |
---|
21 | 21 | | District; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Koepp's son, Ewald "Junior" Koepp, took over the |
---|
23 | 23 | | business in 1969; in addition to serving the community as mayor, he |
---|
24 | 24 | | helped to establish the high school football team and the local |
---|
25 | 25 | | chamber of commerce, and he played a key role in developing |
---|
26 | 26 | | subdivisions, building highways, and convincing businesses like |
---|
27 | 27 | | H-E-B to come to La Vernia; his son, Dwight, joined the company at |
---|
28 | 28 | | age 16 and eventually worked in every part of the business before |
---|
29 | 29 | | officially becoming owner in 2003; today, the dealership continues |
---|
30 | 30 | | its long tradition of service, and it supports many local |
---|
31 | 31 | | organizations, including La Vernia ISD; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, One of the oldest family-owned dealerships in the |
---|
33 | 33 | | country, Koepp Chevrolet has built a record of dependability and |
---|
34 | 34 | | longevity with generations of loyal customers, and it is indeed a |
---|
35 | 35 | | pleasure to honor the Koepp family for the contributions they have |
---|
36 | 36 | | made to the La Vernia community over the past century; now, |
---|
37 | 37 | | therefore, be it |

38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Koepp |

40 | 40 | | Chevrolet and extend to Dwight Koepp and his employees sincere best |

41 | 41 | | wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
