| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | passing of Mary Alice Martin on May 16, 2023, at the age of 99; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The former Mary Alice Michal was born on July 10, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 1923; she spent part of her childhood on her family's farm near |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Flatonia but was raised mostly in Zimmerman, Louisiana; she |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | graduated from Boyce High School; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, On April 17, 1948, this beloved woman exchanged |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | wedding vows with Edward Doyle Martin, and they shared a rewarding |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | marriage that spanned six and a half decades before Mr. Martin's |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | death in 2013; as newlyweds, the couple moved to Orange and then to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Houston; they became the proud parents of four children, Larry, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Edward, Joyce, and Terry, and Mrs. Martin later experienced the joy |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | of seeing her family grow to include four grandchildren and four |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Martin devoted many years to teaching and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | caring for her children as well as her parents, who also lived in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Houston; she was blessed with a wide circle of friends, and she was |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | a valued congregant of Baptist Temple Church and Oak Forest Baptist |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Church; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Possessed of a warm and generous nature and a joyous |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | zest for life, Mary Alice Martin brightened the world for all who |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | knew her, and they will forever hold her close in their hearts; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mary Alice Martin |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | children, Edward Martin and his wife, Patsy, Joyce McMillan and her |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | husband, Robert, and Terry Martin; to her grandchildren, Leah, |

| 33 | 33 | | Bobby, Phillip, and Amy; to her great-grandchildren, Ian, Gracie, |

| 34 | 34 | | Aton, and Everly; to her nieces and nephews; to her close friend, |
