5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The 20 fellows of the 2023 Moreno/Rangel Legislative |

6 | 6 | | Leadership Program have ably served their fellow Texans during the |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The program is sponsored by the Mexican American |

9 | 9 | | Legislative Leadership Foundation, a nonprofit, nonpartisan |
---|
10 | 10 | | organization established by the Mexican American Legislative |
---|
11 | 11 | | Caucus to foster the development of leadership skills among Latino |
---|
12 | 12 | | youth; in 2003, the foundation launched its fellowship to offer |
---|
13 | 13 | | outstanding undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to |
---|
14 | 14 | | gain firsthand experience in the functions and operations of the |
---|
15 | 15 | | Texas House of Representatives during a legislative session; it is |
---|
16 | 16 | | named in honor of the late Paul C. Moreno, the longest-serving |
---|
17 | 17 | | Hispanic member of the House, and the late Irma Rangel, the first |
---|
18 | 18 | | Mexican American woman to serve in the Texas Legislature; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In 2023, the program welcomed the largest class of |
---|
20 | 20 | | fellows since its inception, including Abigail Guerra, Kimberly |
---|
21 | 21 | | Guzmán, Carolina Vanegas, Marla Lopez, Nallely Najera, Pete |
---|
22 | 22 | | Pascone, Alejandro Talamantes Martinez, Matthew Lopez, Azul |
---|
23 | 23 | | Martinez, Herlinda Resendiz, Leslie Mireles, Maria "Mona" Ramirez |

24 | 24 | | Campos, Saul Fontes, Jose Camacho, Elena Tamez, Sol Macias-Thomas, |

25 | 25 | | Julio Mena Bernal, Arleth Amaya, Eloy Barrera, and Adison Denham; |

27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, During the session, these 20 talented students |

29 | 29 | | representatives, and they participated in weekly seminars where |

30 | 30 | | they interacted with Latino leaders, elected officials, and state |
---|
31 | 31 | | agency personnel; their challenging responsibilities helped them |
---|
32 | 32 | | learn more about the legislative process and the issues facing |

33 | 33 | | citizens of the Lone Star State; moreover, they gained valuable |
---|
34 | 34 | | insights into the nature of public service and the many ways in |
---|
35 | 35 | | which they can contribute to their communities; and |

36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, The fellows of the 2023 Moreno/Rangel Legislative |
---|
37 | 37 | | Leadership Program performed their duties as policy aides with |

38 | 38 | | skill and dedication, and they are indeed deserving of special |
---|
39 | 39 | | recognition for their fine work; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

41 | 41 | | Legislature hereby commend the fellows of the 2023 Moreno/Rangel |

42 | 42 | | Legislative Leadership Program for their exceptional efforts and |
