5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Frank Edward Barker of Corpus Christi on November 19, |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2020, at the age of 82; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Frank and Eleanor Carpenter Barker, Ed |
---|
9 | 9 | | Barker was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on September 7, 1938; he |
---|
10 | 10 | | graduated from The Webb School, received an English degree from the |
---|
11 | 11 | | University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and continued his education |
---|
12 | 12 | | at the University of Cincinnati College of Law; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, After receiving his law degree in 1964, Mr. Barker |
---|
14 | 14 | | practiced in Chattanooga; he then joined the U.S. Army as a member |
---|
15 | 15 | | of the Judge Advocate General Corps; a recipient of the Army |
---|
16 | 16 | | Commendation Medal, he served at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi |
---|
17 | 17 | | in the capacity of command judge advocate, and he concluded his |
---|
18 | 18 | | military tenure at the rank of captain; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Barker went on to embark on a legal career in |
---|
20 | 20 | | Corpus Christi that would span more than half a century; a highly |
---|
21 | 21 | | regarded attorney who gained national recognition, he worked for |
---|
22 | 22 | | many years alongside Todd A. Hunter, who is currently serving in the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Texas House of Representatives; renowned for his skill in the |
---|
24 | 24 | | courtroom, Mr. Barker garnered the highest peer rating standard for |
---|
25 | 25 | | attorneys from Martindale-Hubbell, and he built lasting |
---|
26 | 26 | | relationships with his colleagues; moreover, he was engaged in his |
---|
27 | 27 | | community, lending his support to a number of charitable |
---|
28 | 28 | | organizations; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Barker enjoyed the love |
---|
30 | 30 | | and support of his wife, Rene, and he took great pride in his three |
---|
31 | 31 | | children, Courtney, Erin, and Scot, and his eight grandchildren; |
---|
32 | 32 | | and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Ed Barker lived a life that was rich in personal and |
---|
34 | 34 | | professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of |
---|
35 | 35 | | inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know him; now, |
---|
36 | 36 | | therefore, be it |

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Frank Edward Barker |
---|
39 | 39 | | and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his |

40 | 40 | | wife, Rene Barker; to his brother, William "Muecke" Barker, and his |
---|
41 | 41 | | wife, Cathy; to his children, Courtney Schultz and her husband, |

42 | 42 | | Ron, Erin Burnam and her husband, Trip, and Scot Barker and his |

43 | 43 | | wife, Ricki; to his grandchildren, Will, Anna, and Hayley Schultz, |
