44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
66 passing of Frank Edward Barker of Corpus Christi on November 19,
77 2020, at the age of 82; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Frank and Eleanor Carpenter Barker, Ed
99 Barker was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on September 7, 1938; he
1010 graduated from The Webb School, received an English degree from the
1111 University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and continued his education
1212 at the University of Cincinnati College of Law; and
1313 WHEREAS, After receiving his law degree in 1964, Mr. Barker
1414 practiced in Chattanooga; he then joined the U.S. Army as a member
1515 of the Judge Advocate General Corps; a recipient of the Army
1616 Commendation Medal, he served at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi
1717 in the capacity of command judge advocate, and he concluded his
1818 military tenure at the rank of captain; and
1919 WHEREAS, Mr. Barker went on to embark on a legal career in
2020 Corpus Christi that would span more than half a century; a highly
2121 regarded attorney who gained national recognition, he worked for
2222 many years alongside Todd A. Hunter, who is currently serving in the
2323 Texas House of Representatives; renowned for his skill in the
2424 courtroom, Mr. Barker garnered the highest peer rating standard for
2525 attorneys from Martindale-Hubbell, and he built lasting
2626 relationships with his colleagues; moreover, he was engaged in his
2727 community, lending his support to a number of charitable
2828 organizations; and
2929 WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Barker enjoyed the love
3030 and support of his wife, Rene, and he took great pride in his three
3131 children, Courtney, Erin, and Scot, and his eight grandchildren;
3232 and
3333 WHEREAS, Ed Barker lived a life that was rich in personal and
3434 professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of
3535 inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know him; now,
3636 therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3838 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Frank Edward Barker
3939 and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his
4040 wife, Rene Barker; to his brother, William "Muecke" Barker, and his
4141 wife, Cathy; to his children, Courtney Schultz and her husband,
4242 Ron, Erin Burnam and her husband, Trip, and Scot Barker and his
4343 wife, Ricki; to his grandchildren, Will, Anna, and Hayley Schultz,
4444 Cole and Thomas Burnam, and Skylar, Eleanor, and Bowman Barker; and
4545 to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4848 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ed Barker.
