No. 2487 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Eagle Pass firefighter Juan Olivares has earned great distinction through his many years of dedicated service to his community; and WHEREAS, Mr. Olivares embarked on his career in 1999 as an emergency medical technician; while working as an EMT, he took on the role of volunteer firefighter with the Eagle Pass Fire Department; he subsequently received certification after completing the regional fire academy at Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde; and WHEREAS, In November 2002, Mr. Olivares was hired as a full-time firefighter for the City of Eagle Pass; he was honored as the 2008 Firefighter of the Year, and in 2014, he was promoted to lieutenant; during the COVID-19 pandemic, he volunteered with the Emergency Operations Center, where he helped residents receive vaccinations; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Olivares has accumulated more than 3,000 training and certification hours; in 2021, he became an intermediate firefighter, and he has studied in many specialties, including weapons of mass destruction and high rise operations; moreover, he is a certified hazardous materials emergency response technician and an EMT-paramedic, and he has earned certification in such areas as pediatric advanced life support and head trauma emergencies; additionally, he has served as a guest instructor at the Texas A&M University International Hispanic Fire Academy; he holds an associate's degree in business management; and WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Juan Olivares has worked to protect the lives and property of area citizens as a member of the Eagle Pass Fire Department, and he is truly deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby commend firefighter and paramedic Juan Olivares for his exemplary service to the community of Eagle Pass and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Olivares as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
