44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, U.S. Marine Corps Lance Corporal Erasmo Palos of
66 Eagle Pass gave his life in service to our nation on March 31, 1968,
77 at the age of 22; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Agustin and Elena Palos, Erasmo Palos was
99 born on January 8, 1946, and he grew up with the companionship of
1010 seven siblings, Guadalupe, Martha, Bertha, Elidia, Manuel, Elva,
1111 and Daniel; he attended local schools, and during his youth, he
1212 played baseball and participated in 4-H clubs; he also enjoyed a
1313 rewarding career in the retail industry, and in his leisure time, he
1414 liked to play guitar and sing; and
1515 WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Palos
1616 joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966, and he completed his basic
1717 training at Camp Pendleton in San Diego County, California; he went
1818 on to serve in the Philippines for a year, and he began a tour of
1919 duty in South Vietnam on February 26, 1968; assigned to the
2020 Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st
2121 Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force, he was killed in
2222 action at the Battle at Truoi River Bridge; he held the rank of
2323 lance corporal at the time of his death; and
2424 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Palos received the National Defense
2525 Service Medal and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, and his posthumous
2626 military honors include the Purple Heart, the Republic of Vietnam
2727 Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Republic of Vietnam
2828 Meritorious Unit Citation, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the
2929 Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the
3030 Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon; he was also recognized in the
3131 Vietnam War 50th Year Commemoration by President Barack Obama; and
3232 WHEREAS, Serving with honor, courage, and dedication, Lance
3333 Corporal Erasmo Palos embodied the highest ideals of the United
3434 States armed forces, and for his immeasurable sacrifice, Americans
3535 owe him a profound debt that the passage of time can never diminish;
3636 now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3838 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lance Corporal
3939 Erasmo Palos and commend his family for faithfully preserving his
4040 legacy; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4343 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Erasmo
4444 Palos.
