5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, U.S. Marine Corps Lance Corporal Erasmo Palos of |

6 | 6 | | Eagle Pass gave his life in service to our nation on March 31, 1968, |

7 | 7 | | at the age of 22; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Agustin and Elena Palos, Erasmo Palos was |
---|
9 | 9 | | born on January 8, 1946, and he grew up with the companionship of |
---|
10 | 10 | | seven siblings, Guadalupe, Martha, Bertha, Elidia, Manuel, Elva, |
---|
11 | 11 | | and Daniel; he attended local schools, and during his youth, he |
---|
12 | 12 | | played baseball and participated in 4-H clubs; he also enjoyed a |
---|
13 | 13 | | rewarding career in the retail industry, and in his leisure time, he |
---|
14 | 14 | | liked to play guitar and sing; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Palos |
---|
16 | 16 | | joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966, and he completed his basic |
---|
17 | 17 | | training at Camp Pendleton in San Diego County, California; he went |
---|
18 | 18 | | on to serve in the Philippines for a year, and he began a tour of |
---|
19 | 19 | | duty in South Vietnam on February 26, 1968; assigned to the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st |
---|
21 | 21 | | Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force, he was killed in |
---|
22 | 22 | | action at the Battle at Truoi River Bridge; he held the rank of |
---|
23 | 23 | | lance corporal at the time of his death; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Palos received the National Defense |
---|
25 | 25 | | Service Medal and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, and his posthumous |
---|
26 | 26 | | military honors include the Purple Heart, the Republic of Vietnam |
---|
27 | 27 | | Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Republic of Vietnam |
---|
28 | 28 | | Meritorious Unit Citation, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the |
---|
29 | 29 | | Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the |
---|
30 | 30 | | Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon; he was also recognized in the |
---|
31 | 31 | | Vietnam War 50th Year Commemoration by President Barack Obama; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Serving with honor, courage, and dedication, Lance |

33 | 33 | | Corporal Erasmo Palos embodied the highest ideals of the United |

34 | 34 | | States armed forces, and for his immeasurable sacrifice, Americans |
---|
35 | 35 | | owe him a profound debt that the passage of time can never diminish; |

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lance Corporal |

39 | 39 | | Erasmo Palos and commend his family for faithfully preserving his |
