| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The city of Georgetown is celebrating the 175th |

| 6 | 6 | | anniversary of its founding in 2023, and this occasion provides a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | fitting opportunity to reflect on the history of this vibrant |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Central Texas city; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1848 as the county seat of Williamson |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | County, the city was named after George Washington Glasscock, who |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | donated land for the site, along with his partner, Thomas B. Huling; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the community grew in importance with the establishment of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Southwestern University in 1873 and the completion of a rail line to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the town five years later, and the early economy centered around |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | agriculture and cattle, with a cotton boom starting in the 1880s; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Currently one of the fastest-growing cities in the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | country, Georgetown is home to more than 86,000 residents; despite |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | its rapid expansion, the city has retained its historic charm, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | carefully preserving the Classical Revival and Late Victorian |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | architecture of the Williamson County Courthouse Historic |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | District; the city also features a wide range of popular |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | attractions, including the Georgetown Palace Theatre, the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Williamson Museum, Inner Space Cavern, and Blue Hole Park; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Georgetown are working to safeguard |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the best of their past while building a future of expanding |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | opportunity, and it is a pleasure to honor their contributions to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the story of the Lone Star State on the occasion of this notable |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
