44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of
66 Benita T. Martinez of San Diego, Texas, who passed away on
77 March 12, 2022, at the age of 90; and
88 WHEREAS, The daughter of Francisco Trigo Sr. and Gettudes
99 Valerio Trigo, the former Benita Trigo was born on April 3, 1931;
1010 she married Alejandro L. "Cano" Martinez, and they were blessed
1111 with 14 children, Jose "Chemita," Alejandro, Francisco, Albert,
1212 Humberto, Roberto, Gilberto, Bertha, Sylvia, Dora, Dalia, Sandra,
1313 Donna, and Diana; through the years, Mrs. Martinez experienced the
1414 joy of welcoming numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren
1515 into her treasured family; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Martinez were employed as migrant
1717 workers in the late 1960s, and she lovingly guided her sons and
1818 daughters as they traveled to fields in northern states; determined
1919 to further her education, she eventually returned to school to earn
2020 her GED and associate degree; she served as a teacher's aide in the
2121 San Diego Independent School District before going on to work for
2222 the Duval County 229th District Court Juvenile Department for more
2323 than two decades; dedicated to her community, she volunteered at
2424 the senior civic center; she enjoyed playing and singing as a member
2525 of the Guadalupana Mariachi and the St. Francis de Paula Catholic
2626 Church Choir; and
2727 WHEREAS, Benita Martinez lived a full and generous life
2828 surrounded by those she loved, and they will forever carry her close
2929 in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3131 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Benita T. Martinez
3232 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
3333 children, Alejandro Martinez Jr. and his wife, Sylvia, Francisco
3434 Martinez and his wife, Catherine, Albert T. Martinez, Humberto
3535 Martinez and his wife, Patricia, Roberto Martinez and his wife,
3636 Rachel, Gilberto Martinez, Bertha C. Young and her husband, Mike,
3737 Sylvia Martinez and her husband, Carlos, Dora L. Casas, Dalia
3838 Miller and her husband, Paul, Sandra Cano and her husband, Pino,
3939 Donna Martinez, and Diana Martinez Palacios; to her sisters,
4040 Juanita Saenz, Maricella Montemayor, and Amalia Trejo; and to her
4141 other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4444 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Benita
4545 Martinez.
