5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Williamson County are |

6 | 6 | | celebrating the 175th anniversary of their county's founding in |

7 | 7 | | 2023; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Located just north of Austin, Williamson County |
---|
9 | 9 | | occupies more than 1,100 square miles and is divided by the Balcones |
---|
10 | 10 | | Escarpment, which runs from Jarrell in the north to Round Rock in |
---|
11 | 11 | | the south; the area was inhabited by Tonkawa, Lipan Apache, |
---|
12 | 12 | | Comanche, and other tribes prior to the arrival of Anglo settlers |
---|
13 | 13 | | during the Texas Revolution and the early days of the Republic of |
---|
14 | 14 | | Texas; on March 13, 1848, the state legislature established the |
---|
15 | 15 | | county, naming it after prominent judge and soldier Robert M. |
---|
16 | 16 | | Williamson; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, During the 19th century, the county's rich blackland |
---|
18 | 18 | | soils provided fertile farmland for wheat and corn, and its |
---|
19 | 19 | | agriculture-based economy was further bolstered by cattle and sheep |

20 | 20 | | ranching and, later, by the expansion of cotton farming; the |
---|
21 | 21 | | diversification of agriculture in the region was followed by |
---|
22 | 22 | | significant social and economic changes in the mid-to-late 20th |
---|
23 | 23 | | century, and the county's proximity to Austin led to dramatic |
---|
24 | 24 | | population growth in Round Rock, Cedar Park, and the county seat of |
---|
25 | 25 | | Georgetown; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Today, nearly 650,000 people call Williamson County |
---|
27 | 27 | | home; the area offers many recreational opportunities for hunting, |
---|
28 | 28 | | fishing, and boating, as well as such attractions as Inner Space |

29 | 29 | | Cavern, the Georgetown Palace Theatre, the Dan Moody Museum in |
---|
30 | 30 | | Taylor, the Round Rock Express Minor League Baseball team, and the |
---|
31 | 31 | | annual Pioneer Day at Old Settlers Park, which are enjoyed by |
---|
32 | 32 | | residents and visitors alike; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work together |
---|
34 | 34 | | to build an even brighter future, the people of Williamson County |
---|
35 | 35 | | may take great pride in the important role their communities |

36 | 36 | | continue to play in the story of the Lone Star State; now, |
