| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | passing of Rudolph Martinez Jr. of Rio Grande City on May 1, 2022, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | at the age of 83; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Rodolfo and Inez Martinez, Rudy Martinez |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | was born in Corpus Christi on December 15, 1938, and he grew up with |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | a brother, Roland; following his high school graduation, he served |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | in the U.S. Army before returning to Corpus Christi to attend Del |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Mar College; he continued his studies at the University of Oklahoma |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and the University of Corpus Christi, and he later earned a master's |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | degree in music from Texas A&I University; during college, he |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | toured with several Tejano bands; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In 1979, Mr. Martinez moved to Rio Grande City, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | embarking on a fulfilling career at Grulla Middle School, where he |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | served as a music teacher and as band director; he established a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | legacy of success at the helm of the band program, guiding his |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | students to numerous University Interscholastic League Sweepstakes |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | awards and to a top 10 state finalist showing in the Texas Music |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Educators Association Honor Band competition; he retired in 2003, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | concluding an exceptional tenure of 24 years; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez shared a rewarding marriage with his |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | wife, Maria Cristina, that spanned nearly a quarter century; he |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | also enjoyed the affection of a large extended family, including |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | his beloved nieces and nephews; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Rudy Martinez possessed a generosity of spirit that |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | expressed itself in myriad ways, and he enriched the lives of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | countless people with his warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Rudolph |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Martinez Jr. and extend heartfelt condolences to all who mourn his |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | passing; and, be it further |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rudy |
