6 | 6 | | Award winner for the Southwest by Farm Press and the Cotton |

7 | 7 | | Foundation; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1995, the High Cotton Awards |
---|
9 | 9 | | recognize outstanding cotton producers across the country who use |
---|
10 | 10 | | regenerative and sustainable practices and who demonstrate genuine |
---|
11 | 11 | | concern for the environment through the dedicated stewardship of |
---|
12 | 12 | | their land; and |

13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Williams Family Farms is a family operation that |
---|
14 | 14 | | includes Mark and Joyce Williams and their three sons, Ryan and his |
---|
15 | 15 | | wife, Annie, Russell and his wife, Julie, and Reagan; the family has |
---|
16 | 16 | | grown cotton near Farwell for four generations, and within the last |
---|
17 | 17 | | decade, the Williamses have expanded their operation 150 miles |
---|
18 | 18 | | north to Dalhart, where they currently produce cotton, corn, wheat, |
---|
19 | 19 | | and sorghum on roughly 18,000 acres; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Recognized for its high quality cotton and |
---|
21 | 21 | | consistent yields, Williams Family Farms emphasizes the importance |
---|
22 | 22 | | of water, timeliness, and variety in its production process; the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Williamses are currently converting their irrigated acres from |
---|
24 | 24 | | 30-inch rows to 40-inch rows in order to help conserve moisture and |
---|
25 | 25 | | manage irrigation, and they rotate and halve fields depending on |
---|
26 | 26 | | water availability; in addition, they employ a no-till cotton |
---|
27 | 27 | | production method on most of their farmland, take soil samples, |
---|
28 | 28 | | fertilize primarily with manure, and participate in field trials; |
---|
29 | 29 | | and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Williams Family Farms has achieved noteworthy |
---|
31 | 31 | | success within its industry, and this prestigious accolade is a |
---|
32 | 32 | | testament to the family's enduring commitment to cotton production |
---|
33 | 33 | | and to the environment as a whole; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Williams Family Farms on its |

36 | 36 | | receipt of the 2023 High Cotton Award for the Southwest and extend |

37 | 37 | | to the members of the Williams family sincere best wishes for |
