5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Hunt County and members of the |

6 | 6 | | Greenville Chamber of Commerce are visiting Austin on March 1, |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2023, to celebrate Hunt County Day at the State Capitol; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Hunt County is located on land in northeastern Texas |
---|
9 | 9 | | that was initially settled by Anglo Americans who had received land |
---|
10 | 10 | | grants from the Mexican government; the county was formed out of |
---|
11 | 11 | | portions of Fannin and Nacogdoches Counties in 1846 and named after |
---|
12 | 12 | | Memucan Hunt Jr., the first minister to the United States from the |
---|
13 | 13 | | newly formed Republic of Texas; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Agriculture was the county's leading industry, |
---|
15 | 15 | | until it was surpassed by manufacturing during the 20th century; |
---|
16 | 16 | | today, many of the county's more than 103,000 citizens reside in its |
---|
17 | 17 | | largest population centers, including Greenville, the county seat, |
---|
18 | 18 | | and Commerce; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Hunt County boasts a number of attractions and |
---|
20 | 20 | | historical monuments, among them Lake Tawakoni State Park, the |
---|
21 | 21 | | Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum, and the Northeast Texas |
---|
22 | 22 | | Children's Museum; in addition, the county hosts various popular |
---|
23 | 23 | | annual events, such as the Hunt County Fair and Livestock Show; area |
---|
24 | 24 | | residents also benefit from the educational and vocational |
---|
25 | 25 | | opportunities provided by Texas A&M University-Commerce and the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Greenville Center campus of Paris Junior College; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The Greenville Chamber of Commerce, which is |
---|
28 | 28 | | currently led by president and CEO Shelley Corrales and board chair |
---|
29 | 29 | | Holly Gray, endeavors to promote economic growth and foster a |
---|
30 | 30 | | favorable business climate in the area; over the years, the |
---|
31 | 31 | | organization has made a positive impact in the community through a |
---|
32 | 32 | | variety of initiatives, including the Ambassador Program, the Hunt |
---|
33 | 33 | | County Senior Service Alliance, the Leadership Hunt County program, |
---|
34 | 34 | | and the Greenville Chamber Young Professionals program; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, The people of Hunt County have worked hard to |
---|
36 | 36 | | preserve their history and way of life even as they look forward to |
---|
37 | 37 | | the opportunities of the future, and it is indeed fitting to pay |
---|
38 | 38 | | tribute to their many contributions to the Lone Star State; now, |
---|
39 | 39 | | therefore, be it |

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
41 | 41 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 1, 2023, as Hunt County Day at |
---|
42 | 42 | | the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
---|
43 | 43 | | delegation. |
