44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Proud residents of Hunt County and members of the
66 Greenville Chamber of Commerce are visiting Austin on March 1,
77 2023, to celebrate Hunt County Day at the State Capitol; and
88 WHEREAS, Hunt County is located on land in northeastern Texas
99 that was initially settled by Anglo Americans who had received land
1010 grants from the Mexican government; the county was formed out of
1111 portions of Fannin and Nacogdoches Counties in 1846 and named after
1212 Memucan Hunt Jr., the first minister to the United States from the
1313 newly formed Republic of Texas; and
1414 WHEREAS, Agriculture was the county's leading industry,
1515 until it was surpassed by manufacturing during the 20th century;
1616 today, many of the county's more than 103,000 citizens reside in its
1717 largest population centers, including Greenville, the county seat,
1818 and Commerce; and
1919 WHEREAS, Hunt County boasts a number of attractions and
2020 historical monuments, among them Lake Tawakoni State Park, the
2121 Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum, and the Northeast Texas
2222 Children's Museum; in addition, the county hosts various popular
2323 annual events, such as the Hunt County Fair and Livestock Show; area
2424 residents also benefit from the educational and vocational
2525 opportunities provided by Texas A&M University-Commerce and the
2626 Greenville Center campus of Paris Junior College; and
2727 WHEREAS, The Greenville Chamber of Commerce, which is
2828 currently led by president and CEO Shelley Corrales and board chair
2929 Holly Gray, endeavors to promote economic growth and foster a
3030 favorable business climate in the area; over the years, the
3131 organization has made a positive impact in the community through a
3232 variety of initiatives, including the Ambassador Program, the Hunt
3333 County Senior Service Alliance, the Leadership Hunt County program,
3434 and the Greenville Chamber Young Professionals program; and
3535 WHEREAS, The people of Hunt County have worked hard to
3636 preserve their history and way of life even as they look forward to
3737 the opportunities of the future, and it is indeed fitting to pay
3838 tribute to their many contributions to the Lone Star State; now,
3939 therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4141 Legislature hereby recognize March 1, 2023, as Hunt County Day at
4242 the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
4343 delegation.
