5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
---|
6 | 6 | | passing of Jim Brunjes of Lubbock on July 30, 2022, at the age |
---|
7 | 7 | | of 75; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Charles and Dorothy Nell Brunjes of Waco, |
---|
9 | 9 | | Jim Brunjes was born on December 13, 1946, and he grew up with the |
---|
10 | 10 | | companionship of three siblings, Mickey, Jean, and Jane; he |
---|
11 | 11 | | attended Texas A&M University, where he earned a bachelor's degree |
---|
12 | 12 | | in mathematics and a master's degree in statistics; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Brunjes taught junior high before joining the |
---|
14 | 14 | | U.S. military and NASA to work on missile projects; he later held |
---|
15 | 15 | | leadership positions at multiple universities, including a tenure |
---|
16 | 16 | | with the internal audit department at Texas A&M, and he served for a |
---|
17 | 17 | | time as vice president of systems at Southwest Airlines; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1991, Mr. Brunjes joined Texas Tech University as |
---|
19 | 19 | | vice president for administration, and eight years later, he was |
---|
20 | 20 | | named vice chancellor and chief financial officer of the Texas Tech |
---|
21 | 21 | | University System; his responsibilities included overseeing the |
---|
22 | 22 | | system's nearly $2 billion budget, managing numerous offices, and |
---|
23 | 23 | | serving as treasurer of the Texas Tech Foundation Board of |
---|
24 | 24 | | Directors; under his guidance, the system's endowment grew by |
---|
25 | 25 | | nearly $750 million, and he also played an instrumental role in |
---|
26 | 26 | | establishing the Mentor Tech program and securing funding for |
---|
27 | 27 | | improvements to campus facilities; he retired in 2017, after two |
---|
28 | 28 | | and a half decades of distinguished service; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family, Mr. Brunjes shared a |
---|
30 | 30 | | rewarding relationship with his wife, Marie, and he took great |
---|
31 | 31 | | pride in his children, Jennifer, Todd, and Greg, as well as his five |
---|
32 | 32 | | grandchildren, Ben, Laura, Anna, Will, and Jack; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Although Jim Brunjes is deeply missed, he will |
---|
34 | 34 | | forever be remembered with great admiration for his professional |
---|
35 | 35 | | achievements and for the myriad ways he gave of himself to benefit |
---|
36 | 36 | | others; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jim Brunjes and extend |
---|
39 | 39 | | sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
41 | 41 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
42 | 42 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jim |
---|
43 | 43 | | Brunjes. |
