44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
66 passing of Jim Brunjes of Lubbock on July 30, 2022, at the age
77 of 75; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Charles and Dorothy Nell Brunjes of Waco,
99 Jim Brunjes was born on December 13, 1946, and he grew up with the
1010 companionship of three siblings, Mickey, Jean, and Jane; he
1111 attended Texas A&M University, where he earned a bachelor's degree
1212 in mathematics and a master's degree in statistics; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mr. Brunjes taught junior high before joining the
1414 U.S. military and NASA to work on missile projects; he later held
1515 leadership positions at multiple universities, including a tenure
1616 with the internal audit department at Texas A&M, and he served for a
1717 time as vice president of systems at Southwest Airlines; and
1818 WHEREAS, In 1991, Mr. Brunjes joined Texas Tech University as
1919 vice president for administration, and eight years later, he was
2020 named vice chancellor and chief financial officer of the Texas Tech
2121 University System; his responsibilities included overseeing the
2222 system's nearly $2 billion budget, managing numerous offices, and
2323 serving as treasurer of the Texas Tech Foundation Board of
2424 Directors; under his guidance, the system's endowment grew by
2525 nearly $750 million, and he also played an instrumental role in
2626 establishing the Mentor Tech program and securing funding for
2727 improvements to campus facilities; he retired in 2017, after two
2828 and a half decades of distinguished service; and
2929 WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family, Mr. Brunjes shared a
3030 rewarding relationship with his wife, Marie, and he took great
3131 pride in his children, Jennifer, Todd, and Greg, as well as his five
3232 grandchildren, Ben, Laura, Anna, Will, and Jack; and
3333 WHEREAS, Although Jim Brunjes is deeply missed, he will
3434 forever be remembered with great admiration for his professional
3535 achievements and for the myriad ways he gave of himself to benefit
3636 others; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3838 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jim Brunjes and extend
3939 sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4242 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jim
4343 Brunjes.
